John Alite, a former Gambino crime family enforcer-turned-mob turncoat, was sworn in Wednesday as a councilman representing the sleepy New Jersey borough of Englishtown. “I can really do some good. I already had a bad past, and I’m here to redeem my whole life, and I would like to go out doing everything in a positive way,” Alite, 62, told The Post.

Alite spent 14 years in prison on convictions that include six murders, at least 37 shootings and countless beatdowns while working as a Gambino henchman.

He’s already looking at his next move. “I was asked — I can’t talk about names, but I was already asked to go for a higher position,” said Alite, who confided he’s eyeing someday running for Congress, and aims to model himself after President Trump, whom he’s campaigned for since 2016 and personally met five times.

“He’s not your typical politician; he gets the job done; he’s a workaholic. I mean he’s got so many good qualities,” said Alite, who records show has donated $6,501 to Trump and other Republican candidates since 2020.

The silly thing about this thread is the New Jersey borough of Englishtown has a population of about 2,000. Like you said Who Cares?

There are no sinners without a future or saints without a past. I have no trouble giving people second chances. Watch things closely; as we all should all of the time, but judge him on his work, not solely on his past.

Exactly. Let us not cast stones in glass houses. Who amongst us hasn’t been involved in 6 murders and 37 shootings for the mob? I bet most of the people running against him top out at 2 or 3 murders max.

Isn’t everyone in Jersey tied one way or another to a crime family?

Trump made Obama's golf outings an issue during the 2016 campaign so apparently he cared or at least thought that it would matter to his willfully ignorant supporters.

The “give the guy a 2nd chance” is especially hilarious coming from the same guy who practically foams at the mouth insisting that every politician *on both sides* is crooked. But of course we know the “both sides” is an act and if this guy had a D by his name we wouldn’t hear of “2nd chances”, his take would be 100% the hyperbolic opposite.

1st time I’ve seen him give a politician the benefit of the doubt, of course it’s a 6x murderer who only likely isn’t dead or serving life without parole because he was also a rat. Yeah, that guy will be the first honest politician. :emoji_joy:

Based on the description in the OP, sounds like this guy was more involved in doing the hits rather than ordering them.

I am all for 2nd chances, although this guy stretches that beyond credulity. 6 murders should be death penalty. Sounds like he got a sweet deal for being a rat, and is now basically profiting off his past evils.

The mafia has really fallen off if this guy is a rat and can just walk around and be in politics. Guess Omerta means as much as the Constitution these days.
