patently false. Trump been saying the same thing for decades, predating the ‘culture war’. Like him or hate him he has been remarkably consistent. It’s just took years of the republicans putting up turd rinos like romney bush and McCain for people to push past politicians and elect him. Even NPR accidentally told the truth in this past article

Yes, we are being governed by the whims of a guy stuck in the 1980s who hasnt updated since because his brain is a mushy goo of TV news and celebrity gossip

Do think I'm saying that's a good thing? I'm just highlighting that because profit is the one thing chuds seem to understand.

as opposed to the benevolence of politicians. Your example of govern takeovers of student loans has proven demonstrably worse for those students taking loans and skyrocketed the cost of higher education

I'm serious. I guess I'm thinking of the commercial world. So, if he's worked on major projects and has good references that can vouch for him, I would assume he's safe to hire. Obviously, a list of certifications, etc. would also be nice.

What would the difference be with a private loan system? Less people get them, higher interest rates, more collateral ... why is that better exactly for potential borrowers? Just say you dont like easy credit. I dont see how its "worse" for people who want to go to college. Subsidized interest sure beats regular interest. Make college free and none of this matters.

The only gov't departments we need should be Defense/National Security, State, Treasury and Justice. Per Milton Friedman, who is Elon Musk's role model for cutting gov't spending. All other departments should be abolished

You can argue there is a place for federal gov't spending on research but we don't need the DOE as currently configured

    thanks for linking NPR

What he said isn’t inconsistent with what I said. He is concerned it’s the US getting screwed by others. That doesn’t mean he is concerned with growing the size of the pie. He just wants a bigger slice, however big it is. He just wants to be on top, and if everyone else is poorer to achieve that then so be it.

I will answer that but first a question to you; what do they do in any way shape or form that puts students and learning ahead of their own interests? To save you some time here’s the answer: NOTHING!!!

Unions exist first and foremost to allow there leadership a lifestyle that their skills would never provide them. In order to do that, they need member dues. No where in those two does craftsmanship, professionalism, or high achievement come into the equation. This goes for teachers, police, and government workers specifically.

As for the politicians, I truly cannot believe that you would advocate for them in this debate. Limit funding and then legislate that all schools basically need to be all things to all people. Our schools have to be everything from juvenile detention centers to college prep schools.

Only a rich idiot could think the US economy is getting taken advantage of by anyone other than his fellow rich idiots. Congrats to Trump for being stupid for his whole life.

What are you driving at that my post is so funny. If I'm hiring an electrician, then I want to see a resume. If I'm hiring an electrical contractor, same difference. What projects have you worked on and completed and what do the GC's you've worked for say about you.

Is someone suggesting that credentials don't matter? I'm not suggesting that. Obviously you'd need to be credentialed and, IMO, ideally with continuing education to keep up with standards. What am I missing here?

Your post is non-germane. What does 2009 John Kerry have to do with the state of Medicaid in 2025?

Well, you see someone was a little hyperbolic almost 20 years ago about an ongoing problem, so that means you are wrong right now

Yeh, there's no waste in research grants:

Columbia professor marches for Gaza while funded by your tax dollars

According to the National Institutes of Health and other publicly accessible databases, Manly has been named in connection with over $100 million in grants over the past 20 years.

Much of her research is based on the so-called “social determinants of health thesis,” which posits that racism, sexism, and homophobia can cause brain disease in “Black and Latinx communities” — a thesis that critics have described as pseudo-science.

Manly’s appearance at a pro-Hamas rally, coupled with her activist academic research, raises serious questions about the medical establishment, which has directed large sums of taxpayer dollars to ideologues disguised as professors and to activism disguised as science.

    +

Manly’s work routinely advances the idea that racism causes physical illness, such as Alzheimer’s disease. She claimed in an interview last year that “we shouldn’t blame people for their lifestyle choices in terms of their brain health.”

list all the grants she’s on for me and tell me how much of those 100 mil is actually frivolous. My guess is she’s basically a dei team member checking a box on a lot of legit science teams. I think it’s noteworthy the Rufo (interestingly also the subject of op) didn’t list all the grants other than one small one for 700k that makes his point. Some of these grant teams are huge sometimes. You can’t declare 100 mil is waste because of one person attached to the grants.

but of course this is rufos entire mission. He wants to kill higher Ed and he uses legitimate stories like one crazy faculty member to drum up support to attack all of the academy.

Don’t forget that she apparently dared to exercise her first amendment rights: “marching while funded with tax dollars”. :emoji_joy:

Because apparently republicans are ok now to use the federal government to punish people for unpopular opinions.

Interesting . . . I'm not sure if this relates to grad admissions or assistantships.

Additionally, the University of Minnesota is being investigated for allegedly operating a program that segregates students on the basis of race, the department said.
