She was a catcher, I think, who committed when she was 13 if I remember right. From what I've read, she didn't progress as a player like we thought she would and the scholarship offer was never made when she reached the proper age to sign.
I don’t think she was born. That song was early/mid 90’s. More than one of the girls have 90’s walk up music.
Speaking of former commits/players and those that committed at a young age, I saw the score of a Ragin Cajuns game the other day and looked up Sam Roes numbers. She is really struggling so far. Delbrey must be injured since she hasn’t played. Cali Decker is having another nice season. Wish she would have worked out at UF. But I’m really happy the recruiting timeline got flipped around for softball.
Here is the best we've got on Keagan. Walton apparently said yesterday: “If it was something really serious, we would have said, ‘Hey, this is really serious, and this is where we're at,’” Walton said. “We're just being a little bit careful with her making sure that we get her to 100%.”
This is an interesting statement to me, because it aligns with something that I saw in AZ when they played GCU. UF was hitting hard against everybody's hard-throwing pitchers, including GCU. But mid-game against GCU, they brought in a reliever with a lot of movement on her pitches (whose delivery hid the ball well too). And she held UF's bats mostly in check for the rest of the game. It seems high-spin pitchers may give UF batters more trouble than high-velocity pitchers.
At this level, they see a lot of heat. It’s what they’re used to. They don’t see many junk ballers, and it can take a few at bats to adjust to it. Did you happen to catch Carsten Finnvold against Oklahoma in the 2022 baseball regionals? He didn’t start, but essentially pitched a complete game as he recorded every out in that game. Not sure he threw a pitch over 75, but he had OK off balance all night. They never figured him out.
Mroe times than not spin always trumps velocity. Lopez was velocity and spin the other night. Her spin went away a bit later in the game.
Nah. You can't hide Keagan long term. He would have to say something, even if it was the last thing he wanted to do. Same with Jocey and possibly Korbe, Taylor and Reagan. Lower level, a different thing. Crickets regarding Townsen's status.
Am I losing it or did CTW say last week they had to disclose injuries for SEC games? BTW, what is expectations for Miller?
I don’t know that they have to disclose the injury, just that there is an injury. No idea on Miller. Was hoping to see a lot more of her in the early season. Since we didn’t, I’d assume we’ll see her fade into the background like we did last year. Random spot duty, but nothing significant. Nothing to back that up, just my assumption.
Given that we have are down to one true starting pitcher, yeah, not ideal. Maybe Red can treat it as one game that goes into a lot of extra innings. OTOH, guaranteed rain on Sunday so at least we're not sitting through trying to get the game in.
Mix & match. Not sure any of our pitchers other than Rothrock can go 7 innings against Texas. No word yet on Keagan's availability. But I highly believe Coach Walton will mix & match Oxley, Hammock & Brown if Rothrock is out and since they all have different primary pitches, that could help keep the Longhorn hitters a little off balance.
