I expected this might happen under Trump and I expect it’s only going to get worse. No Felecia, republicans don’t have ALL the guns.

This is why Reagan banned open carry as the Gov. of California…. Black groups, like the black panthers, started marching with guns, and it scared white people.

To the extent they are new gun-owners, they picked a good time to get into the game.

With ATF seemingly being reeled back in, the dogs, wives, and infant children of gun-owners are likely safer now than they have been at any point since at least the mid to late eighties.

Another group that has decided to exercise its Second Amendment rights.
The trans Americans turning to guns for protection
Until recently, May Alejandra Rodriguez was a big supporter of gun control.
A 21-year-old Mexican American trans woman who is a student at Western Washington University, she was interested in producing music and snapping photos of her friends on Fuji 400 film.

But Rodriguez, who voted for Kamala Harris, changed her view on guns when Donald Trump was reelected. She had heard the stories from her trans friends in red states: being forced to use bathrooms that didn’t match their gender identities; having gender markers switched on their drivers’ licenses. She saw kids losing access to hormones and feared adults would be next. She thought back to the trans high-schooler who was killed in her hometown and the trans teen who was attacked in Bellingham last year.

“Trans people have every reason to be afraid because we are being attacked,” Rodriguez said. “Every single day, another right is lost.” She believed Republicans were playing on fear to stoke transphobia, so she thought trans people should play the game back. “They’re going to fear us no matter what,” she said. “So let the fear come from a place of reality.” And so when she turned 21 in November, Rodriguez bought her first gun, a Rock Island Armory model M206 revolver.

Can you blame them? I'm sure some maga nuts are already making some ugly plans for pride events this year.

She might have done well to discuss firearms advice with someone prior to making that first gun purchase.

It’s not 1950 anymore, and a snub-nose .38 revolver generally - and particularly a super low-budget one imported from the Philippines and selling for roughly $200-250 - is a pretty terrible choice for a first (or only) gun. They’re far less practical than a modern compact pistol, and far more difficult to use under pressure or actually shoot well without a ton of practice.

Seems to me she may have gotten advice. It’s not rocket science that they’re more reliable, there’s less motion with a revolver, generally no safety to mess with, no magazines to load and racking the slide is not required. Generally a revolver holds fewer rounds is simpler to clean and maintain, and always goes BOOM when you want it to. For a beginner it’s the best choice.

She should have bought one of those derringers you can hide in your garter, because its probably more like 1850 now
