This is a fairly valid point. Hypocrisy abounds all across the political spectrum.

It is important to note however, these position flops regarding each party's view of the MIC have occured during a time when our historic and largest global adversaries are involved in wars of conquest or are preparring for them.

So, when our enemies are threatening, the side that used to not want more military now wants more military. And the side that used to want more military now wants less.

Which of these seems more patriotic to you?

The right wing certainly salivates over the idea of invading and destroying nations. See Iraq. See Canada, Panama, Greenland, blowing up the EU, NATO, etc. These are all GOOD things to them.

When it comes to defending democratic principles or preserving the rule of law? Meh. Let Putin do “whatever the hell he wants”.

Should Europe spend more on defense? yes. That can be accomplished without splintering NATO, ruining our reputation with respect to commitments we make, and kissing Putin's ass.

well the evidence presents otherwise( other than your rediculous comment about Putin ). Not only did nato and EU not spend, but they became beholden to Putin by relying on Russia for energy

as far as kissing Putin azz…. How did operation blanket drop go for Obama in his steadfast defense of crimea ?

at least there are some substantive points made, not like your incessant drive by whining about other posters.

Better be careful what you wish for. For one, spending was already up due to our friend Putin. Two, NATO - for all its supposed faults - was under US control. The largest and most powerful military alliance in human history and we were the jockey on that horse.

Not so sure that will be the case moving forward. Maybe they take more control of their future and not be as beholden or servile to US needs. Further, Europe was waffling on China before Putin attacked Ukraine, but came over to our side pretty solidly when Xi backed Putin. Now they're in the wind again.

Maybe this is winning in the eyes of morons, but I can't find anything about this that is good for America. Nothing whatsoever.

NATO Secretary Rutte says membership is off the table, for Ukraine, and that NATO will seek to normalize relations with Russia after the war.

You mean that it's distracting the public from the slow train wreck of the economy under Trump's mismanagement?

Don't weeeeee all over yourself too much.

I see you're a little slow on the uptake today. Selling less U.S. warplanes hurts the U.S. economy. Having Europe develop their own warplanes BECAUSE THEY CANNOT TRUST THE U.S. makes the world less safe. We are no longer one of the good guys. We are at best a neutral country, and at worse a country willing to consider invasion of other countries for economic gain. NATO works well to counteract dangerous countries like Russia because European countries and the U.S. can trust each other and rely on each other and work as a team. Trump has gone his own way and become one of the dangerous dictators that concerns normal democratic countries. European countries now have to consider how to defend themselves against Russia and the U.S. It is impossible to say what percent reduction that has on Europe's defense capability, but it has to be a lot.

Like I've said before, Trump is the first U.S. leader to be an actual threat to civilization itself.
