takes years after you complete the school work and pass all the screening tests to get accepted to an old school "academy" that you have to move to Oklahoma to attend and then can get sent to a station anywhere for a salary equivalent to an apprentice electrician or less.

and they want to blame the shortage on dei..smdh

Air traffic controller shortage of 3,800 due to DEI practices cutting ‘too white, too elite’ candidates: lawyer

After completing training at the FAA Academy, trainees are placed in a radar facility or air traffic tower, which can be anywhere in the US. Employees should expect to work day, evening and night shifts, along with weekends and holidays, depending on assigned schedules, the FAA states on its site.

After all the training, entry-level positions still only pay $35,000 to $45,000 per year, and although experienced ATCs make six figures, it typically takes years to reach top-end earnings.

One prominent air traffic controller source who spoke to The Post claimed training at the national academy, based in Oklahoma, is inadequate.
They pointed out the academy has not yet adopted “automated grading” and instructors therefore pick and choose who can and can’t become an ATC.
“The academy is flawed because it is not teaching everything that is needed to become an ATC and it’s subjective to the opinion of an instructor who thinks you can or can’t do the job,” they said.

I think the point is that private aviation doing something stupid like running into another private plane on the ground is not particularly unusual or newsworthy.

So the thread pointing at this particular incident is more or less the equivalent of if, after Hurricane Helene, someone started a thread saying “And just today my washing machine leaked water all over my laundry room. What is with all these floods suddenly? Damn you Joe Biden!”

How the hell can he afford a private jet? Hasn't had a hit since 1987 and I figured he would have blown all his money on cocaine and strippers by now.

I saw it reported that the left main landing gear failed. That could have caused the plane to veer off the runway and get on the taxiway. Not saying it didn't land on the taxiway but the gear failure would cause the plane to swerve uncontrollably.

you could see in the video that the left side of the plane seemed to drop and the play veered hard left before hitting the 2nd plane

FAA is all over it. They have identified the real issue.

    What a bunch of geniuses.

Simply amazing how poorly air traffic and airports are run under this incompetent Trump guy. I'm seriously afraid to fly live in a state with an airport.

12 taken to hospital after fire seen under American Airlines plane at DIA

DENVER (KDVR) — Passengers were evacuated Thursday evening from an American Airlines flight at the Denver International Airport after a fire was reported.

According to DIA, there was an aircraft fire “to an American Airlines plane” that was sitting at gate C38 on Thursday evening, producing “visible smoke.”

“Passengers were evacuated and the slides were deployed,” the airport said.

This Trump presidency is not unlike what’s going on with air travel today.

So we shouldn't automatically suspect DEI when a plane crashes?

    Gotcha. Good talk.

There's no reason to suspect that he didn't.

Common sense leads us to that conclusion.

Appears to have been a mechanical issue with the plane. How is that an ATC or airport issue? Sounds like they executed the emergency landing well.

I disagree. During the last 16 years, where we did not have an airliner crash, we obviously were doing all of the small things we needed to do at every level of airline industry because relying on luck isn't going to prevent tragedies in an industry that involves so many variables and a high consequence of failure.

An increased number of crashes is extremely telling of the fragility of modern air travel.

When you bring a disruptive President into the mix of a system of systems which rely on stable markets for good corporate decision making, the resulting precision and stability in your maintenance and operations, leading to determination and attention in every seat from pilot or air traffic controller to deliver passages safely to their destination, and processes which are not invulnerable to disruption - you can easily upset the system with disastrous consequences.

This is exactly why we don't take wrecking balls to our government by mistaking an occupied building that needs work for a condemned building - people's lives are at stake every moment and each change needs to be given the utmost consideration before actions are taken.

Republicans want to raze everything, but they have no answers for what will replace it except for grandiose ideas for beachfront property they can sell to Russians. Even if there is no beach.

Dead Americans and a broken system that creates more dead Americans will be the result of America losing it's collective shit and entering the Trump FAFO sweepstakes.
