Russia is starting to panic at the threat of cheap Chinese cars flooding their markets, and has jacked up tariffs on China keep their dying automotive industry alive. Import taxes are up to about $7500 per car. China sold a million cars to Russia last year, which is seven times higher than the total in 2022. China is selling loads of cars in Russia — and Moscow is not too happy
US shunned by European allies for top security summit Military officials from nearly all of the 32 NATO member nations will convene in France to discuss creating an international security force for Ukraine on March 11, with the exception of the U.S. The international security force for Ukraine would be instituted to dissuade Russia from launching another offensive after a ceasefire has been achieved. The idea for the creation of the force came from France and the U.K., which have been spearheading the provision of military and financial aid for Ukraine since tensions have worsened with the U.S.
Moscow residents get a taste of their own (Putin's) medicine when Ukraine gives them a massive drone attack, striking apartments in a suburb southeast of Moscow. 'War has come': Russians shaken by Ukrainian drone barrage
Here is a surprise: a Russian-owned steel plant in Oregon made steel plates for armored vehicles for the U.S. Army, and managed to sell plates where the inspection results were falsified. Why would the U.S. Army buy anything from a Russian-owned firm? Armor plates for U.S. military vehicles produced in Russian-owned plant never passed inspection: Report
Both Biden and Trump said that US forces would not be on the ground in Ukraine, so why would we be in a meeting discussing putting troops on the ground in Ukraine?
Because if one of our NATaO allies invokes Article 5, we are treaty bound to honor it. And the complexities are such that the troops from our allies require our support. For now.
Question is if article 5 comes into play because a NATO ally get attacked, will Trump just sit on his hands? That kind of US response was unthinkable for the past several decades.
I wasn't. I've been making that point since before he even took office in spite of assertions by some on here that would never happen, or that somehow he would he "forced" to step up; which is laughable.
For starters we are by far the biggest contributor to Ukraine’s defense. We’re also heading up the peace agreement between them and russia. We’re a major contributor to nato and have bases all over Europe that would most likely be used for staging. And I anticipate few if any can provide intel like we do, that would be used to support those troops. Not to mention our military is the largest and most effective in the world - more than Europe combined. Traditional, we’ve been their ally, and would at least want us in their corner.
they are discussing how to provide real security guarantees, not the pinky promise kind that cost them Crimea and much of eastern Ukraine and untold pain and suffering and economic damages. I can understand why Putin and his pawn do not want that any more now than they did when Russia and the USA both stood up on the world stage and promised security to Ukraine in exchange for their nukes, then Russia says oopsie, attacked them repeatedly, and neither failed to provide the security both countries guaranteed. Now the anointed one wants to make them another pinky promise and promises he will get Putin to pinky swear too. Would you take a pinky promise from the person that broke the last one and cost your country the pain and suffering inflicted by Russia again? Seriously? Does all rational thought have to leave one's mind when trying to defend the indefensible? the pos is offering Ukraine the same deal they got last time from the last dumbass that thought he could trust Putin (Obama). That didn't work out so well for Ukraine
The irony is that the security guarantees needed to secure peace are precisely the contrivance that Russia used (amongst so many more) to invade at inception. Russia claims it did want Western troops on its border, but Ukraine now needs Western troops there to secure a lasting peace. Russia doesn’t care about peace. It wants Ukraine. And more.
And so they've been telling us for years their beef is NATO moving troops closer and your solution for peace is to move NATO troops closer? Considering that would no doubt be seen as an escalation by Russia, what happens if they too decide to escalate?
NATO map before and after when NATO had stayed away before the invasion the whole farce that they invaded because they felt threatened is an insult to anyone with a shred of intelligence, let alone those there who have suffered so much
Russia will simply decline the 30-day ceasefire and put the onus back onto Ukraine to make further concessions. However, getting Ukraine to agree in principle to a 30-day ceasefire was a huge step forward.
