I remember when Republicans respected the military. Wasn't even that long ago. "Downsizing," disabled veterans isn't just sad, it's reprehensible and monstrous. Even Private 0 Class Bone Spurs should know that military members who have given their limbs and health for the country should be allowed to earn a living immune from politics.

    Vets are gross.

In a 2020 report for The Atlantic, Goldberg quoted sources who said that, while planning a 2018 military parade, Trump wanted wounded veterans excluded because “Nobody wants to see that.”

Gen. Mark Milley's disturbing reminder about Trump's disdain for wounded vets

I dont. I just remember guys like Rumsfeld not paying for body armor while the Republicans used "the troops" and flag pins as a cudgel to cow opposition.

    OK, maybe it's been awhile.
I know Trump is hostile to the military (unless there's a camera around) but this is just beyond the pale.

Again, I just think back to the "Mission Accomplished" spectacle and Trump has a long way to go WRT contempt and camera friendly militaristic aesthetics. Like Trump couldnt even fit in an aircraft that wasnt C-130 size.

    From Trump's lawyer:

"You know, we care about veterans tremendously," Habba told reporters at the White House.

"But at the same time, we have taxpayer dollars, we have a fiscal responsibility to use taxpayer dollars to pay people that actually work," said Habba, who holds the title of Trump's counselor."

Wow, that's quite an insulting presumption, Ms. Habba. How were the malingerers discovered? What's the criteria for determining if a veteran is industrious enough to be on the taxpayer's dime?

Just more casting of a wide, indiscriminate net. Meritocracy, indeed.

If they did it based on performance (non probationary) then they would trigger discipline. Hopefully not that dumb. If they based probationary on performance, they would also trigger discipline, once again dumb. If they just fired willy nilly, once again, dumb.

If you do the right thing in a dumb manner, it is still dumb. Sense the trend

Why in the world do you go along with every stupid harmful damn thing that gets proposed by Republicans and, in particular, this administration? How about a little independent thinking on your part. You’re no dumbass. This administration plans to get rid of 80,000 VA jobs. There is no way that they are going to be able to determine, and they likely don’t care, whether people are qualified for their positions or not. They’re just gonna get rid of them.

Government bloat IS stupid... downsizing is painful for those that lose their jobs. But I hear chatter of Virginia and Maryland hiring many of these former federal employees. Good news for them, and good news for the economy. Now those same employees actually pay revenue into the tax collection versus being a drag on it.

Let's look beyond the media bias, beyond the too hot bias and misleading thread title and address the actual story.

The vets mentioned in the thread title were going to be used by the congressional democrats as a political tool. The idiot biased anti Trump democrats invited fired veterans to make it about vets. It was not about vets the firings were about people not doing their jobs, it just happened that some of them were vets and the democrats planned to use those vets to support their dishonest point that the firings were about vets.

Where is the evidence that any of the people “were not doing their jobs”? Trump fired all of them indiscriminately because firing probationary employees was the easiest way to fire a bunch of people. It had nothing to do with job performance. The result is likely many good people and some bad people were fired. And some bad people kept their jobs, too, because they been there a year or two longer. It’s no different than if Trump said “fire everyone born of the 3rd of any month”

But even then, why make up an excuse that they were lazy and unfit to work? Could have just said, “we unfortunately had to let a lot of good people go, but that’s the tough decision the president has make in cost cutting”…. It’s a more honest answer, and Then we don’t have a thread about it….

Well, I guess if you are dismantling the entire federal government structure, you won't need employees.
BUT, WHERE IS ANY PLAN on how federal revenue will be redistributed to the states, since the states will have to pick up services the fed gov't is eliminating?

"invent?" where did that come from? I said democrat congressmen invited some fired vets to Trumps speech last night. It was to be part of their political anti Trump stunt they tried so hard to pull off last night.
