I hope he doesn’t recruit like Dan Mullen. That was a disaster. The female assistant seems to be a good recruiter, and Ambler, who was our chief recruiter, was retained. I am very excited about this new staff. I am even more excited that we still have Jackie.
I don't think he will. His top players graduated this year and one transferred out. I asked a friend if anyone on the roster would be able to come over and make an immediate impact in the SEC and he said no. Interesting than Ambler was the only one kept on staff considering she did the recruiting and abby did the recruiting at marquette. Hopefully the team has been in the gym getting to know Theis, I've seen other teams been in the gym since last month.
One of this forum’s past concerns has been the number of service errors we’ve had. Over the last three years, assuming my calculations are about right, Marquette has averaged 1.9 service errors per set, compared to 2.6 per set for UF. In 2023 it was 1.9 versus 2.9. Service aces per set were about the same for MU and UF.
Same, he has a really good background. Hopefully the girls warm up to all the coaches, they all seem like good hires.
I have asked this mult iple times and all I have received is May, which doesn't sound like spring to me. I was hoping it was before the semester ends to give these kids a real good look at what's expected of them before making any decisions.
May 17th is what an insider posted. CRT will have many opportunities to interact with these ladies before that. Hopefully, the trip will be the ultimate bonding experience.
Gators are playing in a tournament this fall with some big names. Gators to Play in AVCA First Serve in August - Florida Gators also didn’t realize that Vandy kicks their program off this fall.
Talk about two big games to start out the Thies era. Passing will be a big question mark. Any info on any spring games?
Looks like Coach Theis has done an excellent job of recruiting all the members of the current roster. That’s a great start!
Per Volleytalk 2026 commit Jessica Smallwood has re opened her recruitment. What was posted on VT: It's just me being careful. Didn't want to get them in trouble. It is Jessica Smallwood, KiVA 17 Red. Already verbally committed to Florida. No problems with the Ryan but had her heart set on playing for the Mary so wants to look around now. Ryan knows about her wanting to reopen the recruitment, and is OK with it.
I'm reading that Dave Boos was one of three interviewed for the HC job. After 15 loyal years, any speculation why he was passed over? And any rumors where he will land? I wish the best for him and his young family.
All I've read was that Theis was the most qualified, with proven success as the head coach of a D1 program. Plus he and his wife have Florida Gator ties, him having coached here as an assistant to Mary Wise and his wife being one of the best volleyball players in UF history. Nothing against Boos, as many our the Gator players wanted him as the head coach. It just seems that those who made the hiring decision saw that Theis was the better option.
The Auburn match is at Tift High School in Tifton, GA. Time TBD. The UCF match is in The Venue, their VB facility.
