Competition jumps up several notches this week for our softball team. I hope our weak schedule thus far doesn't hurt us. We play @ 13-5 Houston Wednesday, then @ #5 20-2 Texas A&M next weekend. Their only losses were by 1 run to ranked Oklahoma State and a 7-2 loss to Nijaree Canady's #13 Texas Tech Team. They, also, beat Texas Tech today and beat FSU twice in Tallahassee. This team can hit and they have a deep pitching staff and the Gators will have to play well in all phases to win the series.
I think our team has yet to play their best softball..they have been good..but I think they will rise to the level of competition...
Question for those that score and stat games. When a third strike is dropped by catcher and a throw to first is required how are those scored? If the throw isn't in time does the strike out not count? Is it an error? Does tge the strike out count if the throw is in time or is that out ruled like any other hit that results in an out to first?
Strikeout stands, not sure about the rest. I guess if the throw to first is wild/dropped etc it would be an error.
Gators BA is .402 compared to A&M .341. Gators ERA is 1.64 compared to A&M 1.78. Gators look better on paper but A&M has played a much tougher schedule. Both played FAMU this year with A&M winning 12-1 & 11-2 and Gators winning 9-1. I think the run rule games are pretty much over. As AL Davis said, "just win baby "
Strikeout stands. Runner reaches on dropped third strike, wp, passed ball. An error would only be charged if the throw was errant and the runner advanced another base.
According to baseball rules, the strike out stands and there cannot be both a dropped third strike and throwing/fielding error if the runner only advances to first base. The runner advanced to first because of the dropped third strike is safe. You are not able to also apply an error to that play.
Sorry... so the strike out stands when the throw to first is completed in time. Is that the same regardless of the outcome st first? That's a rule I just don't like, seems like if a player swings and misses it shouldn't matter where the ball ends up once it's passed the plate.
The computers still have us #1, but the real season starts now. ELO Chess Ranking - 2025 College Softball | WarrenNolan.com
ATM has home field advantage. Florida may have a “mental” advantage since they won all 4 games last year with Emily Kennedy taking 3 of the losses in Gainesville. Our batting lineup has the potential to be like a freight train with nine engines, THE SUNSHINE EXPRESS. I can’t wait to see it get rolling this week.
As most teams have ended or are close to ending their non-conference schedules, here are where the Gators stand statistically in the NCAA (300 Teams): Team Batting Average - #1 .402 Team ERA - #7 1.64 (Tennessee, Oklahoma, Ole Miss & LSU are SEC teams ahead of us) Team Fielding - #46 .972 Total Hits - #2 244 Home Runs - #2 44 On Base % - #1 .490 RBI - #1 208 Scoring - #2 9.29 runs per game Shutouts - #4 9 Slugging - #2 .710 Stolen Bases - #5 62 Strikeout to Walk Ratio - #37 2.79 WHIP - #18 1.06
