Phony numbers. I'd bet my entire net worth that Ukrainian casualties are double Russian casualties. Probably 7:1 or higher
attacking a swiss owned, panamian flagged vessel in port of odessa Vladimir Putin launches attack on ship 'carrying British weapons for Ukraine' Russian President Vladimir Putin struck a cargo ship with missiles to "sink" it after unconfirmed Russian sources alleged that the ship carried British weapons to aid Ukraine. Two Iskander-M ballistic missiles hit the reportedly Swiss-owned MSC LEVANTE F, a Panama-flagged container ship. ............................................... According to Ukrainian officials, the missile strike damaged infrastructure and wounded two port workers. Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba denied Russian allegations, stating that the vessel carried "completely civilian cargoes."
I think that ship was a fair target under the rules of war, even with “completely civilian cargoes.” I’m just surprised that Russia was able to hit a target as small as a container ship, even if it was sitting idle in port. Maybe they were aiming at the customs house, two miles away?
Maybe I’m naive on the issue but I would be surprised if Ukraine/UK funneled weapons that close to the front. I figured most weapons were being transported over land from western Ukraine.
While I don’t know I doubt Russia makes that attack before Trump made it obvious he is at best neutral on the conflict. Did that display last week at the WH change your opinion of Trumps intentions as to Ukraine?
Seems like a really astute analyst: After Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Macgregor appeared on three Fox News programs in February and early March to speak in support of Russia's actions. Three days after the war began, he said "The battle in eastern Ukraine is really almost over," and predicted "If [Ukraine] don't surrender in the next 24 hours, I suspect Russia will ultimately annihilate them." Macgregor said he believed Russia should be allowed to seize whatever parts of Ukraine it wanted. In his second appearance, he revised his prediction: "The first five days Russian forces I think frankly were too gentle. They've now corrected that. So, I would say another 10 days this should be completely over. ... I think the most heroic thing he could do right now is come to terms with reality. Neutralize Ukraine."
MacGregor isn't the analyst who calculated the casualty numbers. Yes Ukraine is being annihilated. Sadly the US dragged Ukraine into a war it had no chance of winning.
I think you’re right. No reasons that actual weapons needed to be on that ship. Even if it only contained materials such as food, clothing, medicine, etc that sustained Ukraine’s ability to fight long term, though, that is a legitimate target. I would not hesitate to attack it if I were Russia. The only question is whether the juice is worth the squeeze.
My guess is Vlad's new ally is tipping him off. Happening hours after the Zelensky public spanking...
this is the ultimate "Trump" card and one I think Z was trying to play as he knows that the Russian assets in the WH are going to sell him, and Ukraine, down the river if he goes with the flow As Europe mobilizes behind Ukraine, it's sitting on a $218 billion ace card — and it's being urged to play it Some world leaders and politicians, including former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, are urging European countries to seize the roughly $218 billion in frozen Russian central bank assets — now largely held in Brussels — and hand them to Ukraine. "It is only fair that Russia should pay for the damage its war has caused," Sunak wrote in an opinion piece for The Economist on Friday. ..................... The EU holds the majority of the roughly $300 billion in Russian funds frozen by the United States and international allies after Moscow launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. The funds have been earmarked for rebuilding Ukraine in peacetime. Some of the interest earned on those funds has been transferred to Ukraine as loans. The UK's chancellor of the exchequer, Rachel Reeves, and Ukraine's finance minister, Sergii Marchenko, signed a deal on Saturday to deliver another £2.26 billion, or about $2.8 billion, to Ukraine from the accrued interest, also as a loan. But there's now growing support for a long-considered option: seizing those frozen funds, which would allow them to be transferred directly to Ukraine for use in its defense. In December, Kaja Kallas, the EU's top diplomat, called for the move — and it's seen support in the past week from leaders in the UK, Estonia, Poland, and Finland. On Saturday, a coalition of campaign groups and UK MPs brought together by the Athena Foundation called on the UK to get the ball rolling with the seizure of £25 billion, or about $31.4 billion, of Russian state assets now frozen in the UK financial system. Adrian Karatnycky, a nonresident senior fellow with the Atlantic Council's Eurasia Center, wrote in Foreign Policy magazine in January that the full $300 billion in frozen assets could replace the US contribution to Ukraine for the next six or seven years if Trump were to cut support to Kyiv.
Zelensky continues to insist that any decision about his resignation is in the hands of the Ukrainian people. But it’s hard to understand how this can be the case when he’s suspended elections and imposed martial law.
