The news-edited highlight optics sure looked like a set-up. But the majority of the press conference was relatively uneventful, until the end. Zelensky made many mistakes, and bluntly, as an experienced international leader and diplomat, he knew of the traps beforehand, and walked right into them, anyway. He grossly mishandled the matter. I am not excusing Trump-Vance double-team, so don’t get me wrong. I found their schoolyard name-calling abysmal, and beneath the dignity of their offices. It was disgraceful. But, Zelensky made too many errors.
I am not sure about that. Maybe. But the talks were going no where. All Trump wants is for Ukraine to surrender so he can say he ushered in peace. Zelenskyy could have surrendered without Trump’s help. He knew when he flew here that Trump’s offer was useless. “Give us mineral rights so we can help you surrender” makes no sense. I am sure he hoped to get Trump to offer security in a moment of weakness that never came.

The mineral deal was a smokescreen. #47 is looking for an excuse to lift U.S. sanctions on Russia to help them rebuild. He needs to say "see, Zelenskyy doesn't want peace.' I mean, c'mon, who tries to negotiate a peace deal by leaving out one of the two factions? Ukraine was not invited to the so-called peace talks. You have to ask yourself, what is Russia willing to give up for a cease fire or peace agreement? The answer? Absolutely nothing.
