Sure, yes, anybody can beat anybody on any given night. Hell, even LSU can win a game. Well...maybe not South Carolina. But it's ok to feel confident. Obviously not to the point of players overlooking, taking for granted, etc. Fans, though, can celebrate. Let's put it differently: would you rather have A&M's chances tomorrow night?
Yeah something is weird about that last column. It looks like Auburn got all of the first place votes, so no one voted them 11. And I doubt anyone voted us 21.
I semi-see your point…..but sometimes teams pull out freakish wins. Like when a 3 point shooter that has been in a slump shoots lights out with a defender all over him and doesn’t miss until 10 minutes left in the game…that’s how the game goes sometimes. Doesn’t mean Missouri is better than us. On the flip side, I 100% think we are a better team than Auburn even though they have way more Quad 1 wins than us. We still beat them and it wasn’t a fluke
No truer statement was made that the only person who could beat Mike Tyson was Mike Tyson. This team has almost taken on a similar identity. If they play up to their potential it will be almost impossible for any team to beat them. They have developed the one thing that last year's team lacked: a killer instinct. When they get you on the ropes and land left hooks, you are 12-15 points down by the time the bell rings (time outs).
This is listing the lowest ranking for the season. Auburn was preseason #11 with Florida #21 while Kansas starts year #1 That is what this means. It is not listing any individual votes
I'd say at best we're #5 in AP. Houston and UTk jump us, and Michigan State may as well with them beating two ranked teams last week. I'm guessing Wednesday is #5 v #8
Both polls agree with you. Auburn atop AP Top 25 for 8th straight week; No. 6 St. John's has highest ranking in 34 years
So, the Gators drop from 3 to 5 with a close road loss at a suddenly hot poodle team. UF beat UTn by 30 in Gainesville while UTn beat UF by 20 in Knoxville. UF is tied with bama for 2nd place in the SEC. The Gators get to remove the tide from 2nd place on Wednesday in Tuscaloosa. UTn is in 4th place. UF has a better overall record than UTn. UF's opponents winning % is higher than UTn's opponents. UF is the only SEC team to beat conference champion Auburn winning by 9 at Auburn. The tiggers didn't drop with a home loss. While I'm sure you guys are right about what have you done lately but seems that UF is the only team being held to that standard. Why do I feel unnaturally violated by the AP and Coaches Polls? What I do know is that UF has the best team in terms of talent and depth in the nation. Screw the polls which seem to have a hard on for UF.
Eh, rankings don't even matter. I always thought perception on us would be mixed because we didn't beat any major opponents in the non-conference (though either did Tennessee, fwiw). We have blown out just about everyone on our home floor and in non-conference, had some big wins on the road, and lost a handful of head scratchers (UGA, Mizzou at home, UT w/o two starters). Our metrics are through the roof on both ends, and I think that has stabilized us a bit from the rankings standpoint--I mean, no one is ranking us 10th or something. But we never got that bump in first place votes after Auburn beat Bama, while we were on a hot streak. Believe we lost first place votes. But whatever. Beat Bama, and we are a lock for a 1-seed. Lose, and it will take some work/luck. But give me a 1-seed and I don't care what the polls say. We had a total of 2 votes overall in the AP preseason poll. Bama, Houston, and Auburn were all top 11, with 900-1400 points each. KenPom had us 28. Torvik had us at 36. Miyawaka had us 10th in the SEC and 32nd nationally. This team never had any respect to start the year, and it had no opportunities in November-December to change the narrative. Does not surprise me one bit that the polls are behind still.
What’s hurts most is our strength of schedule. Our non conference schedule did not include a top 25 team. We also only have four wins against AP Top 25 wins. Tennessee and Alabama have eight and nine respectively. Win these next two and that will help our cause.
I only want a one seed if we don't have to go to San Fran. I personally wouldn't mind a two in Atlanta.
