Why would Zelensky give away a substantial amount of his countries resources WITHOUT some sort of security? What was this “deal” ever supposed to be without that?

Remember it was Trump who announced this in the first place. Seems like Zelensky was a fool or naive to think he was negotiating with a serious person. Bad idea for him to even be there knowing it wasn’t a legit deal, still he probably didn’t anticipate this level of looney tunes show on live TV.

 

I've been fortunate enough to travel to Europe several times and often engage the locals re their opinion of the US (travel, tourists, etc) and our politics (healthcare, gun laws, economy, etc). With the exception of a cabbie in London ranting against British immigrants most all of them expressed admiration for the US and amazement that the US ever elected a guy like trump and not in a positive way. Haven't been since the election tho.

C'mon. This was a complete setup to ambush Zelenskyy in front of the media.

If you can't see that our country is rapidly morphing into a non-democratic crap show, you are not paying attention.
Why was a Russian state media person allowed to ask the President of Ukraine why he wasn't wearing a suit?
Today was a national embarassment and sets us on a course to align with non-democratic countries. Our country will be far weaker for decades.

Maybe I'm overly optimistic but I think Marco will resign within a year. I don't see how he can continue to support a president who has aligned himself with a dictator from the same country responsible for supporting an brutal authoritarian regime in the homeland of his parents.

 

Does it even matter? Our foreign policy has gone rogue.

 

That was a weird thing to say. The Ukrainians love Zelenskyy and he’s more popular than ever in that country. The big mistake Zelenskyy made was thinking he could have an adult conversation with a couple of narcissistic toddlers.

And so many are spineless cowards who happily turn a blind eye to the suffering of others and tuck their tales and go hide under their beds when an evil dictator invades other nations. I am sure you will be very happy with yourself when Ukrainian citizens are marched off to Russian concentration and re-education camps. I am also sure you would have been one of those in 1939 who stood by and applauded Germany as their hate mongering dictator and his collaborationist allies brought "peace" to Europe too.

As far as I can tell the 2 threads have little to do with each other.

Not sure what's going on. I rarely watch TV. Am I missing something?
