I guess it could expedite things, but I dont know what the advantage would be in most cases. A while back Qatar was handing out citizenship to Brazilians or whoever to play for their national team, and FIFA cracked down on eligibility via paid citizenship schemes. Things seem looser in basketball and other sports but I'm sure the rules makers will take notice if it becomes a thing.

Nope... just let the ones that remain on the job (after the purge) do it.

Trump wants 10M people to come to the US with $5M each. That's $50 Trillion! Genius. problems are solved... only one problem:
    • There are only 1.4M in the US with net worth of $5M
    • There are less than 2M in the world outside the US with $5M
Donald Trump is so disconnected from reality he has no idea how few people have money. This is the moron we have elected to the White House.

Don't worry, even you will get a pay raise in Trump's tax cuts. No more taxes on SS.

I was going to be rude, but I have nothing personal against you, city.

I think you misunderstand Trump's business model. He wants to get 10 people to give him $5M. Then they each get 10 people to give them $5M. They in turn get 10 more people to give them $5M. And so on down the line. Problem solved. ;)

Don't they all technically play in pro leagues? Youth academy players are usually compensated.

Thanks. My thread was more about Trump misunderstanding wealth in the world than it was immigration policy but, fine, I guess.

You cant really sign a pro contract until a certain age (16-18 usually, depending on the country). There is compensation, but its essentially room, board and education. Its not unlike attending IMG or Monteverde.

I was reading up on that, biggest issue it seems is whether they've played with the senior team. I guess if you're that good you're going straight to the pros anyway. On that note, I highly doubt kids are going from Man City's academy to the NCAA.

You'd be surprised. Lots of kids are let go from the academy and dont get a pro contract, more than make it to the next level (U23 pro/reserve league usually). Its super rare to go straight to the first team. There are recruiters over there that pitch them on NCAA soccer ... because their choice is between finding a low level pro team that isnt going to pay well or go to school in America for free, get a university degree, play soccer, and party with American girls - and if you are good enough, still have a potential pro career. So if you ever wonder why random British guys are playing for UCF or something ...

Yeah, but there are so many pro options over there. You can make good money in the National (5th) League and decent money in lower leagues than that. I'm sure there are some who see value in a scholarship, but probably a lot more who just want to keep playing as long as they can.
