Social Security Administration Could Cut Half Its Workforce If true, may be the dumbest thing contemplated yet. I’m coming around to James Carvilles philosophy that Democrats should step back and let Republicans hang themselves with all of their idiotic proposals.
"The decision could target one of the government’s most prominent public-facing initiatives: SSA field offices, where seniors, people with disabilities, and survivors whose parents have died can sign up for benefits and get information" 50% is a massive headcount cut. Hopefully Trump/Musk don't break it - SS is very popular and depended on by a majority of people.
perhaps we would be better off if they did break it and let people feel the pain of their awful choices.
It either results in a ground swell that renders the gop irrelevant or what the people think of this won't matter> citizens or subjects?
also agree on carville. He’s had some good quotes lately, including calling out the dem party. He’s effective at communicating what should seem obvious.
My mother worked for the SSA decades ago and said it was the busiest job she had. I don’t know their current staffing levels but I doubt it’s better than when she worked there.
My MIL was on phone hold with SSA for 2-1/2 hours last week (before staff cuts) -- just think how much better DOGE will make the agency.
I would be its way over staffed and many don't do their jobs efficiently. Just like many city and state jobs.
Based on what, exactly? Less people work for the SSA than 30 years ago and there’s an additional 75 million people in the US. You think the work just magically happens?
Honestly AI can probably eventually handle a lot of what staff at SSA do if set up correctly. But that’s not like flipping a light switch. There are talks starting at Uf now about transitioning some staff responsibilities to ai but that will probably require a slow rollout with lots of testing so still probably several years away. To expect ssa which has had historically long wait times to magically be better or transition to more automation with a wave of a wand is naive and wishful thinking at best. Sounds more like blind partisanship at this point.
