BBC : "The White House plans to determine which news outlets have access to President Donald Trump, taking control from an association of journalists after more than a century. The changes, announced by Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday, mean the White House will determine which outlets participate in the "pool" that covers presidential events and shares material with other media outlets. The rotation of pool reporters was previously determined by the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA), which said the decision "tears at the independence of a free press". The surprise announcement comes as the Associated Press fights to restore its access to presidential events after it was blocked." All the very best fascist regimes have taken control of the press so we knew it was coming. No one in the WH is allowed to say: "felon" one assumes because he stops whatever he's doing and says "What".
another loony post. Omg The NY Times and Wash post won’t be able to sit in front row. Oh the horror. Trump is available for questions and is more active with the press than the last 10 presidents combined. You may hate what he says and hate his answers but he does answer. Biden would disappear for days/ weeks/ months. Trump has already done more press conferences in 5 weeks than Biden is his 4 Years. Trump is the first fascist in history to lower taxes, shrink government, return power to states and encourage citizens to own guns. But sure. He’s a fascist.
Not really taking "control of the press" ... just kicking out another small part of its relative independence. Now the WH will determine who gets to cover it and ask questions in these pseudo-events of WH press briefings. Its hard to say what the utility of them was before (access journalism is very flawed to begin with), but now they will be even less useful.
Karoline Leavitt announces MAJOR White House media shake-up Press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Tuesday that the White House would now determine which reporters make up the press 'pool' - the group of journalists allowed into tight spaces like the Oval Office and Air Force One. Pool assignments had been in the hands of a democratically elected group of journalists, the White House Correspondents' Association, to keep the White House from gatekeeping access. + 'We want more outlets and new outlets to have a chance ot take part in the press pool, to cover the administration's unprecedented achievements up close, front-and-center,' she said. She continued: 'As you all know for decades, a group of D.C.-based journalists, the White House Correspondents' Association, has long dictated which journalists get to ask questions of the president of the United States in these most intimate spaces.'
Can you show me that you were up in arms when something similar happened under the previous admin? More than 440 reporters lose press passes after White House changes requirements At least 442 reporters have lost their credentials since the White House press office changed its rules for journalists to be eligible for permanent passes, according to reports. The White House announced updated standards for a yearly renewal of "hard passes" in May. Journalists who do not obtain hard passes can still apply for a day pass. Politico reported the number of credentialed White House correspondents dropped from 1417 to 975 after the previous passes expired July 31, with the new number reflecting "a mix of renewals and new applications."
Just a guess because they weren't listed but most if not all of those 440 reporters were probably "journalists" (in parentheses because most were journalists in name only) from fringe publications like Breitbart who were awarded credentials by Trump during his first administration.

Ironically I watched the Donald and Elon show (the more accurate albeit informal description of the their performances) on MSNBC. Surprised that network wasn't banned but then maybe the Donald uses different criteria for television broadcast networks than for the print and/or online media.
