Zelensky agrees to US minerals deal after Trump rows back demands Mr Trump also denied speaking to Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, about accessing minerals on Russian-controlled parts of Ukraine. The US was open to striking a minerals deal with Russia, he added. “I’d like to buy minerals on Russian land too if we can,” Mr Trump said. “The rare earth, they have very good rare earth. They have very valuable land that isn’t utilised, so something like that could take place.”
Listening to the President today, it sounds like he is fleecing both sides. Smart, considering both sides are vulnerable at the moment.
Yeah, good job extorting a country literally hanging on the ropes for its survival. I can see why you’re proud.
Trump will end that protracted war, and he will great trade deals with Ukraine for the U.S.A., and the Leftists will still hate Trump.
One more thing on this war. It is obvious that Western Europe is nearing a northern Caliphate of Islam and America should relocate all our bases to Poland, and other eastern European countries that still have sound migration laws. And the United States can safely become the third trading option for those European nations that do NOT want to trade inside the EU nor in Russia... I have posted this before on another thread, and I will reiterate it until someone (high up in politics) takes note. Britain’s blueprint for a Trump-style revolution
At the very least, it sounds like you finally recognize how vulnerable Russia is, not merely playing with Ukraine like a mouse, ready to establish air superiority and cut through Odessa like Sherman through Atlanta as soon as the spirit compels them. I would call that a form of progress. Let the “optimistic” stamps rain down.
And how exactly would this be different than any other war outcome? It's called the cost of doing business.
The two ideas aren't mutually exclusive. Russia could still take Odessa, especially if this drags on longer. But that doesn't mean Russia isn't vulnerable (and isolated) at a macro level. Obviously, they are and have been the entire time. The difference is President Trump's willingness to fleece both sides, which is the only reason you're seeing any cooperation out of Russia.
Really? What did we extract from SK, Vietnam or Europe after WWII? What did we pay the French for their help in the Revolutionary war? Yes, Russia will lay claim to whatever it keeps but the US is swooping in like vultures pecking at a live but injured animal. It’s extraordinarily distasteful.
So you think being $36 trillion in debt, the American taxpayer should just wave bye-bye to those billions that went to Ukraine out of the goodness of our hearts? Despite our interest payments on the national debt exceeding our entire military budget? Or do you think perhaps, being in such debt, we could look for ways to get our money back? If that doesn't illustrate the ridiculousness of your position, I won't bother getting into the fact that it's a lie that Ukraine had no alternative other than soaking the American taxpayer.
Yes, I’m sure paying down our national debt is the reason we’re doing this. The same moron is going to put in place tax cuts to further exacerbate our debt and you’re going to try to talk down to me on debt? GTFO.
Why are you getting so upset? What other reason would it be? And if it was something nefarious, Zelenskyy would surely mention it to European leadership. Does it even matter what the reason is if the American taxpayer is recouping money spent on a foreign war? Probably not.
Fleecing vulnerable people is what you look for in a president? Until he fleeces you, of course, and then it would be bad. You don't understand why that would be bad policy long-term, do you? You really do not understand that the U.S. is giving up its position as a global leader and advocate for freedom and democracy, do you? Why these actions will make the world more prone to warfare, and not less? You believe that if the U.S. has the power to be a bully and take what it wants, then that's exactly what it should do? Do you really think that the rest of the civilized world would continue to trust the U.S.? That they will still want to trade freely with the U.S.? You really don't see any negatives to going around and fleecing as many people as you can in the neighborhood? You can't see that untrustworthy behavior was how Russia became the world's gas station?
Credibility and dependability shot. Why would anyone trust us? God forbid we should ever need any help ( history is a long story), potential allies may just tell us to pound sand. Thanks gop.
They did fight our war for us. Have you no gratitude? Have you no decency? When you find grandma lying in the street after being mugged and beaten, do you make her stop at an ATM and then demand protection money to get her home safely? Making a deal for Ukraine's minerals is best done AFTER we help them to victory. Let them volunteer a good deal for the U.S. to buy the minerals out of gratitude for our assistance, once they are back on their feet. That's how you get long-term allies who want to become more like you (more democratic, and less corrupt). It happened with England after WWII--they gave up most of their colonial possessions. Making any kind of deal with Russia before they change their ways is foolish. We should refuse to do business with Putin, and negotiate with his successor only. If they want to do business with the U.S., they need to dismantle most of their military factories and scale back their military spending. This will have a greater chance of succeeding if we get Europe on board with the program (making Europe hate the U.S. is a step in the wrong direction).
