Sounds like you're saying it takes a great QB for Napier to win. That seems to be putting a whole lot of pressure on Lagway.to prove Napier is a winner and hopefully DJ is up to the challenge. However, what happens when Lagway graduates and we dont have that All American type QB??
Dabo had a couple and then he didnt. Theres always the most pressure on a qb. If they cant handle that pressure, they arent that guy. Puppies had Beck, he sucked and they lost.
You're talking NCs, I'm talking winning more than 7 regular season games. Beck actually makes my point. He was mediocre and they still made the playoffs under Smart. Ohio st just won a NC with a guy that certainly wasn't a 5*. A 5* QB is great but it takes more than that to win.
No doubt, they were just easy references of teams that not only won but won big without a 5* QB. I just asked because I see many posters saying Gators will be good to great due to Lagway.. So what happens if/when no Lagway.? Guess we need another 5* QB.
Multiple services have Beck rated as a 5 star. Bennet would have made a better argument if you were wanting to prove Georgia wins without a highly ranked qb. I don’t really see what any of this matters anyway. If Napier wins with DJ, that’s a good thing. If he doesn’t, he’ll probably be fired. If he wins, maybe another good qb will want to play for him and he’ll continue to be successful. If they don’t and he goes back to winning four games, he’ll probably be fired. The endless what if scenarios are a waste of time. Whatever happens is going to happen no matter what scenarios you guys dream up. We don’t really need a contingency plan for some what if scenario that none of us will ever be tasked to manage.
Other coaches sporadically employ it....not use it as your first call every time...but hey we have a good field goal kicker.
It happens hundreds of times every weekend of football season. Saturdays and Sundays. We do not use the same play every time.
Well if you're doing it on 3rd and 17 as I suggested expecting more than a field goal you definitely need a new OC. Considering you have a great downfield passer like DJ in there and are relying on the entire defense going blind for a play wouldn't it be better to run your receivers at least 15 yards downfield and attempt to complete a pass for a first down the old fashioned way. One thing for certain you would catch the defense off guard going down field.
Teams run screens on long yardage 3rd downs every weekend of football season. Saturdays and Sundays. They do not all need new oc’s.
If Lagway isnt in the Heisman race, we will fight for 8 wins. If he is a legit contender, we are likely in the playoff hunt. The too few teams will be really hard to beat with a heisman qb.
So in your mind everything that doesn’t go right is Billy’s fault. No wonder you put up so many of the same posts
Not just his mind, everyone who’s ever been in charge of anything’s mind. The buck stops at the top when things aren’t going well. Always.
Great QBs are wonderful and no team wins with a bad QB. But serviceable QBs with a great roster and good systems can win big. A decent offense and top defense can win a lot of games.
Lot of things going right with our Gator football team. Finally have a deep, serviceable OL, recruiting and roster building definitely going well, off field issues are almost non existent, 4 game winning streak to end last season. If you want to harp on the won-loss record and spotty on field play, better have at it now. The pieces are in place to vastly improve our on field performance. At least a lot of us Gator faithful feel like we are finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.
