Yeah. Averaged 8 points with the gators and looked primed to make a sophomore leap. Transferred to Texas for what I can only assume was more playing time. Ended up fading away instead. Rick Barnes is a good coach but Billy D was probably the best guard coach in the game, period, when he was here. Gotta think it wasn't the best tradeoff.
When weird stuff happens I think either follow the money or follow the woman. But neither one makes sense here.
We had Calethes at that time, so I guess he figured he’d never be PG over him. Selfish but not totally irrational if looking at purely “wanna be the man at PG” reasons, although as it turned out he sat out a year and then Calethes went pro anyway, and he never did much at TX. So it ended up a really poor move. Maybe one of those hindsight is 20-20 things. Also Erving Walker was brought in that year Lucas transferred out. Can’t remember if that opened a space for Walker or it mattered in getting him, but I’d say it worked out pretty well either way clearing the path for Walker at PG!
