He didnt have the right bag for the qb we missed his first year, Simmons i think it was. He did his best to bridge it with Mertz. Defense has been Granthamed til RR.
He/UAA (hard to know who to blame) let a few key defensive players walk and didn't do much in the portal to replace their production. He also played "lets hire friends" and picked a completely unqualified DC in 2021.
His stature among coaches isnt that of some. He may not have the same choices that someone like saban may have. Money is always key with coaches and talent. I think the bag account was zero this year until he turned things around and then all of tge sudden our staff could recruit. I think he walked into a school tgat didnt have their shit together financially as far as nil and it showed. I believe its been a work in orogress for UF top to bottom. It seems its coming together and we should be competing for a fringe playoff spot. Seems about where we are financially also if you look at what our staff is paid. We didnt pay top 5 and shouldnt teally expect top 5 results.
It’s simply called improvement. What’s so hard to understand about that? I’m certainly counting on improvement in 2025 over last season
You do understand that Napier is learning in the job right? I mean this is his first Power 5 gig. We can argue all we want about how UF should hire better than a dude who never coached at this level, but if you want to blame someone for that it isn’t Billy you should be angry with. And he clearly does appear to be learning. He obviously has a good handle on how to identify talent, identify character, and convince the recruits and their families to sign up. Maybe it takes a while to become elite at play calling. I don’t think it takes “morphing” or some other hyperbolic word to improve on 8-5. After going 8-5 with a bowl win, which exceeded all our expectations, I really do not get the continued incessant negativity about our program. We came a long way last season — give the guy a chance to continue improving….. or, we can just fire everybody and start from scratch all over again if we fail to make the playoffs this year. Yeah that makes sense doesn’t it.
That is a fair assessment knowing what we do and realizing that we can't be sure about a lot of things.
Hyperbole. I don't recall suggesting that he be released for that. A 10-2 team might not make the playoffs depending on what else is going on around college football, but it would still be a very good season. Improvement is an absolute must for retention, IMO. Otherwise we're just accepting the continuation of the mediocrity we've been stuck in for a decade and a half.
Yeah I hear you - just gotta keep in mind that Billy is only responsible for 2 shitty seasons. If he hadn’t turned the corner mid season and salvaged a respectable 8-5, I’d be ready to let him go now. Further improvement next year is important. If we go 8-5 again, my enthusiasm will be watered down a lot - it’ll depend a lot on how we look, who we beat, and who we lose to.
Incorrect. UF fired Zook for taking over a successful program and the team immediately regressed. In three years the team never grew and was a mess, on and off the field, by the end of the 3rd season; with the exception of the glorious naming of Doak Campbell Stadium as Ron Zook Field. CBN took over a floundering team in a much different era from Zook’s team. By the end of CBN’s third season his team was playing as well as any Gator team since the CM years. Off field health is a complete 180 from the Zook teams. CBN’s organization has reset the bar at UF. For your power whining about CBN’s growth after three years. That’s your problem. You be you.
Winning or losing against lsu or ol miss was a thin line and we should have many of those on the coming schedule. We win some and lise some is my guess. We may only win 8 again but games like Miami and A&M can't happen.
That’s almost fair. Perspective is lacking, but you have a point. The team needs to continue to grow. Another 8-5 season isn’t good enough for year four. 9-4 would be disappointing, but would keep him around for a 5th season. Especially if Lagway stayed with him.
Yeah, he can have 3-4 losses with that schedule. But, the team can’t be a complete mess like they were in 3 of their losses last season. I want to see what the team looks like after spring before I state it has completely turned a corner. IMO, it clearly turned a corner in November of last season. Now we just have to see what we have after the spring game on April 12th. What I see going into spring is this could be the most complete team since the CM years. Right now I’d say, if the breaks go CBNs way, a 10-2 regular season is in play. 9-3 would be OK and 8-4 would be disappointing.
Zook at UF 23 - 14 Napier at UF 19 - 19 I understand that you have an immature need to label other posters and I'm sorry that hard facts tend to disturb you. You be you.
Your hypocrisy is so typical of bellyachers and power whiners. You post a snarky reply to one of my posts. I respond to your ignorant hot take then you follow up with playing the victim card… amazing. The career records for Zook/CBN at UF has been discussed. Its relevance to team growth is deficient, but a popular red herring bitch by haters like yourself.
It’s year 4, this “inherited” thing is silly. This is completely his team. 8 wins just isn’t good enough.
Waaaahh! A predictably thin-skinned response from you. Newsflash...not everyone is going to agree with all your breaking hot takes.
8-5 did not surpass all of our expectations. My expectations were to be a playoff team. He would have won 8 games year 1 with Mullen leftovers if he wasn’t an incompetent game day coach that let Defense and special teams play grab ass at practice everyday the first year.
Of course the "inherited" comment was about the team CBN took over. It obvisouly had nothing to do with the 2025 team.
