If he doesn't succeed this season, the best he should be able to hope for is some unfortunate team will bring him in as an OC for 2026.
Skink, you provided the qualifier: "if he doesn't succeed." Do you really believe the team will "succeed" if BN doesn't succeed as a play-caller? And if not, why would he be able to in 2026 with a completely rebuilt OL? He has had 4 years to recognize the weakness of the offense and hasn't acted. Do you really believe he ever will? Personally, I believe he will only hire an OC if his boss says, you will hire an OC to call plays by X date or you will be terminated. This is the year he must prove his ceiling is something better than a mediocre coach. He earned 2025 with an improved defense in the latter half of 2024. He will have to earn 2026 with even better results. If he can't, he should be gone.
The biggest weakness of tge offense has been qb and hopefully that has been addressed. Mertz did as well as could be expected but he is no redzone assassin. Average at best.
Maybe, but even with a healthy Lagway it was a feast or famine offense last year. Too may 3 and 6 and outs. Let's hope with a year of experience, Lagway can come out in 2025 looking like Peyton Manning did between his Fr and Soph year.
Which reminds me of Peyton as a true Fr. forced into action because of injury to UT's starter in 1994. He wasn't ready, but in 1995 he was.
It’ll shine when it shines It’ll shine when it shines And you might think I’m wastin’ time But I’m just a good ole boy that’s learned to wait — Ozark Mountain Daredevils
Well he's been here for a while but it's still been Napier's offense and he calls the plays. Callaway can expand the playbook but if Napier doesn't call the plays it doesn't matter. We have to wait and see if Callaway's influence will be felt.
I look forward to "DJ was overrated" as we move into 2028 hoping Billy can finally turn the corner after signing a 5 year extension and hoping we can beat the Vegas spread of 6.5 wins.
Forget the first 2 seasons. They’re lost and gone - the down payment on what we have now. Anybody was gonna have a bad season with the effed up team Billy walked into. Billy struggled more than we wanted in year 2, and if he hadn’t turned it around in 2024 he’d certainly be gone. But he did turn it around, and dwelling on ‘22 and ‘23 accomplishes nothing except clouding perception of where we are now. 2024 is the baseline with a functional team. Look ahead, not back. What happens this year and next are all that matters now.
