OK on with the Arizona State game. The crowd was a little bigger and more lively. The starting line ups were already posted by Ocala so:
    Top of 1st Inning:
Falby KcBKsBBKs strike out 1 out
    Shumaker BB grounder P single
    Otis BKcBBB walk
    Erikson BBKcKcFB
Now this was interesting Jocey popped it up in no man's land behind 2B. I think it dropped untouched between 2 players. Otis who was on 1B went halfway then sprinted to 2B. The CFer tossed to 2B who may or may not had her foot on the bag, but she tried to tag Otis too late. No out call from the base ump. Otis wouldn't leave 2B. So after about a minute of ump conference, she was removed. Based on what I saw, I think the 2Bman did not have her foot on the bag initially, and Korbe knew this and having beaten the tag thought she was safe. There was no video review available to the umps. So after the ASU crowd made their opinion clear I think the umps buckled. JMHO. 2 out
Walsh KcBB grounder 3B 3 out
    Bottom of 1st Inning:
    ASU#44 BBBKcKcF grounder 3B 1 out
    ASU#18 Kc single CF
    ASU#32 foul out C 2 out
    ASU#38 BKcKc HBP
ASU#24 B, wild pitch runners move up, KcKsKc strike out 3 out

Arw there any reviews at this event? The camera view is saw for a short time was only 2 views. Bama was the same and they apparently could only do reviews on 1st base.

Thanks for your input on the Otis call at second base. The TV view I saw did not keep the camera on second as the ball came in. I saw Otis was running to second and the ball was going to beat her so I thought it was an obvious out. As she was about to step on second the camera pans away to the right and left us wondering. But with the delay decision and the lack of knowledge by the broadcasters, we never got any idea what happened. Your input makes more sense than any other reasoning I've heard.

Are they volunteer announcers? I thought the worst announcers I'd ever heard were earlier this season when we played Stetson. These announcers are comically horrible.

Pretty sure all the sec+ and espn+ announcers are provided by the host. Some hosts seem to grab a couple random people who’ve never watched the game out of the parking lot and hand them a mic.

I mean boom goes the dynamite. I'm watching it right now on Demand because I was busy yesterday. This is ridiculous. Comically bad.

Gotta' agree with this. Yesterday was my first time to see her in person, and she has the look of a truly great player.

@ufjaz Definitely agree. We can only get so much from watching the game. Your adding the atmospherics of actually being there is great. Keep 'em coming, especially the feel with Red today.

As for Saturday's opponents, here are the facts about them:

New Mexico State is 9-5 with a game against California Baptist before they play us. They have wins over Colorado State (2), Kansas City (2), Northern Colorado, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Montana and Portland State. Losses are to UC Santa Barbara (2), Nebraska, Northern Colorado and Iowa State. Team BA is .368, 24 HR, 46 BB, 46 K's, 6-8 SB. Team ERA is 4.53, 16 HR, 30 BB, 55 K's, .298 BA against. Fielding is .952. Their best hitter is sophomore Desirae Spearman, RHP/UTL, hitting .588, 9 HR, 24 RBI. Their best pitcher is, also, Desirae Spearman, 4-1, 3.41 ERA, 26.2 IP, 18 BB, 28 K's, .222 BA against.

Grand Canyon is 12-2, very good team. They have wins against Northern Illinois (2), Colgate, Montana (2), Weber State, Belmont, Washington, North Dakota, Arizona State, Portland State and Iowa State> The have lost to Wichita State and Oregon. Team BA is .347, 14 HR, 36 BB, 69 K's, 33-35 SB. Team ERA is 2.10, 6 HR, 13 BB, 73 K's, .205 BA against. Fielding is .974. 7 starters are hitting above .320, led by Soph. INF Savannah Kirk, hitting .479, 0 HR, 6 RBI, only 1 K, 11-11 SB. They rely primaril;y on 3 pitchers, ERA's 1.23, 1.31 and 3.14, BA against .206, .205 & .175. This is a very good team with great pitching and the Gators are going to have to play well to beat them.

Here's some background color with my GCU game day. After the ASU game I drove to my hotel near the GCU campus - probably 12 miles. It took me an hour easy to get there - Friday afternoon rush hour. Traffic was horrible. Some lanes were standstill, some were going 65 mph - a nightmare for someone not familiar with the route.

Anyway, got to the hotel - it was horrendous - the worst I've ever stayed at - and I'm 73. Forget how bad the room was (don't get me started). The area was very bad. I prayed my Jeep didn't get vandalized (fingers crossed so far). Let's just say this morning I was advised to stay at the hotels north of GCU - word to the wise.

Well enough of that, this morning I had to get out of the room, so I decided to scout GCU for parking and a campus tour (about 2 miles from the hotel). The neighborhood was still pretty seedy. I was circling the campus (about a one square mile block, give or take) looking for an entry point. The whole block was isolated from the neighborhood by an 8 foot wrought iron fence or buildings. It reminded of a prison camp compound. (Maybe a little harsh, but essentially impenetrable by vehicle OR foot.) I found 3 entry points all manned by guards. I was allowed in by one near a parking garage.

So I took the opportunity to take a walking tour around campus and have a bite of breakfast. It was well maintained and attractive - not many open areas, but many facilities.

Everyone seemed very pleasant. The last time I was on the UF campus was a softball game about 12 years ago. But I guess times change - so many electric scooters (It was bikes when I went to UF 86-89).

Well I'm going back to catch the game prior to our first game (about 1:30 MST) - just to get out of this room.
