I don’t doubt the 5k was said but what I heard was a 20 percent of what is saved earmarked for a check back to the American people. Won’t be much once divided between 333 million.. but still better than being wasted.

Deep down, he fantasizes about being another dictator from Austria or PW Botha. President Musk is bigger scum than Trump because he actually has a modest intellect, unlike the other total and complete moron.

20% was a comment attributed to Trump. President Musk tweeted out his proposal for $5k.

The OP’s math is a bit off. 5k per tax paying household not per person. Wouldn’t amount to 2 trillion. If I was fortunate enough to get some of my taxes back I’d do the responsible thing and enter Circa survivor contest 5x.

Much like my opinion of the Bush tax cuts, pay down the debt first.

So you think everyone pays taxes or even files a tax return? Not that it is going to happen anyway.

Haha modest intellect. I guess we could hope for a real genius instead like Pocahontas? Take off your hate filled glasses; Musk has changed entire industries.

Income tax is not paid by everyone. I am sorry I gave you to much credit thinking you would know that is what was my meaning of taxpayers. I should have known better than that.

I would rather the government just not take that $5000 from me in the first place if they are gonna waste it.

Guarantee I will be a better steward of it.

Of course, Trump and Musk could eliminate Federal Income Tax, and Democrats would still hate it and claim it’s a lie. Democrats are never happy. It’s a mental health illness to be a liberal.

If you liked the impact of the Covid stimulus checks on prices a year down the road you're really gone love the impact of the DOGE refund checks assuming that they will actually be issued. Although certainly not the only cause the Trump and Biden Covid stimulus checks were a significant factor in the inflation late 2021 and 2022, probably the primary reason for Trump's election in 2024.

    We got here by overspending.

In 1910 total gov't spending (local, state and federal) was 12% of national income.

When Reagan took office total gov't sp we ending was over 44% of national income. When he left office total gov't spending was 40% of national income.

By my calculation total gov't spending is now over 51% of national income. The burden of complying with gov't regulations consumes another 10% of national income per Milton Friedman.

The correct move is to slash regulations and gov't spending, which is what Elon wants to do.

The DOGE rebate is a one time thing. The spending cuts keep on giving every year going forward (until big gov't types raise spending again).

I could support a rebate calculated as each income taxpayer’s proportionate share of the 20% saved from the cuts, but only for taxpayers with earnings (before deductions and other tax law loophole reductions) of $400K. It would be one time only and for 2023 income tax actually paid. The uber rich and lots of corporations would therefore get little to nothing back. Us middle class folk might get enough to buy a fish sandwich.

He was being investigated by some of these government agencies he went after first.

Much of the Trump administration shenanigans is all about avoiding jail time.
