I have been on both boards over the years. When I was a paying member I still visited this forum. A couple of years ago I left the premium boards because I was just going to the free boards. I think I will start paying again before the upcoming football season though. I don't even remember when I started on the Gatorcountry forums. A long time ago for sure.

You started on the current version on April 9, 2007. It is shown below your avatar. But like me you were probably a member of the earlier incarnation.

There was a Gator football bulletin board I found back in the mid-90's - or earlier, iirc. The reason I say earlier was that I remember getting America Online (which started on Windows around 1992) & using it at work (I didn't have Internet at home) when I was working late. Only a few people were on it. I joined as iam4uf but I never posted because they all seemed far more knowledgeable. I remember it went through a few iterations, at one time I "lost" it for a number of months.

    Right here
Ive always been interested in the diversity of start dates of those that predate the current iteration of this site. By the data, Golphin started on Apr 9 2007, you started on Apr 8, and ima4uf started on Apr 12. Meanwhile, tampajack and I started on Apr 3.

I recall the migration was a bit of a process, but we all actually got here on the same day, right? Or were jack and I sitting around just talking to each other for 5 days?

Yep, several switch overs and some folks, such as myself, were not credited with legacy posts. I have many thousands not included in the totals listed under my username. Been around since 97.

I used to follow Swampie's Rumor Mill for a while back in '95 as a student at UF. Then, I was a posting member at the ESPN college football chat box in '96. I didn't know about the CTRL C function back then, so I just manually re-typed whatever I was trying to quote, lol. That's how I learned how to type...

I joined Gator Country in mid '97 and have been here ever since. Seems we were bought and sold by Rivals and even Scouts at some point during the dot.com era...

Through it all, I have been here during good times and bad!
    In all kinds of weather...

thinking of start dates I often wonder what brought members to these boards. I graduated 16 years before joining and often wonder what I was doing all those years to get my Gators coverage. I didn't even know sites like this existed. I think it was soon after both sports NCs that I said to myself, I wonder if there's a Gators site that's all things Gators with chat boards etc. And voila, I found this place. What a great group of people here too (for the most part lol)

    About the start dates...
I know we had GC around the year 2000, and I started coming on about daily in 2003.

The message boards during our run-up to the NC game vs tOSU in 06 were priceless with the Buckeye fans invading our board.
So somehow they found us pretty easily. What a delicious game that was...

I also remember listening to the USCe pre-game show before our game in 2003 and there was an interview w/ someone associated w/ Gator Country.

So it was pretty well- known from the early days.

My gf at the time (I think it was '97 or '98) alerted me to the site. I think it was called The Swamp back then. The rest is history, including the gf, who was batshit cray.

GatorBait Magazine. I would read it cover to cover every week before church because on of the other members was a hardcore fan and he knew I would be ready and we would stand outside the church talking Gator Sports until time to go inside. All the Nole fans would walk by us in the Glory years! ;)

NBN is the only free board I visit regularly. I don't post a lot, but I always read. Most of my posts on the other boards are just drive-bys for humor, unless someone irritates me.

    Yes sir.
I graduated in May 87 and moved here to South Carolina weeks after graduation.
I was glad to be out of school but missed Gainesville and Gator sports a great deal.

Coverage of Gator sports was minimal outside of Florida back then. After all we were 6-5 ish from 87-89 and hardly ranked so far from the national spotlight.

GatorBait magazine was my lifeline from 87- 2000. I read every word.

First, I distinctly remember posting on Gator Country (or its predecessor) that Hans Tanzler, Jr. was going to be a really good walk-on for the Gators. If I recall correctly, that was during the 1946-1947 season. I also remember arguing with Bullis1 about Tanzler. That was 32 Bullis's ago. I also remember arguing about 6 years before that with a bunch of posters on THFSG who thought that we should side with the Germans.

As for the current season, it's not out of the question that the Gators could lose a game as early as in the 2nd round game of the NCAA tournament against a top-30 team that's red hot, but they also could win the whole enchilada. The Gators are a tremendous offensive team with plenty of depth if everyone gets healthy by tournament time. They move the ball on offense, and with the exception of one player, they rarely take bad shots. The one guy who takes bad shots is Walter Clayton, but those shots are only bad shots for everyone else in college basketball. WC's ability to make difficult shots is remarkable. We probably have to go back to Teddy Dupay to see a Gator who could make those shots (but Billy wouldn't let Teddy shoot them). The toughest tests for the Gators going forward will be if they run into a Houston, Tennessee, St. John's type of team that defensively takes away the quality shots that we have been getting and can battle us on the boards. The Gators will have to step up defensively in those games. Although dealing with the portal every year is going to be a complete crap shoot, I also think we are positioned well going forward. Assuming that our key players with remaining eligibility all come back next year, we should be able to move Haugh to the 3 and start a lineup of Chinyelu, Condon, Haugh, Klavzar and Aberdeen, with these guys backed up by a strong supporting cast. We shall see. I am pumped.

Sorry to steer this thread back on topic, but I can report on the whereabouts of @murphree_hall.

After the NBN discussions of last season, he began a marathon session of playing hoops 24x7 to prove that resting is completely unnecessary in the game of basketball. He is still playing as of today.
