The problem isn't because of the concern with some 19 year old's 10 minutes. It is more the fact that those 10 minutes will result in people having to waste far more time walking back their ignorance that could have been prevented if they looked into the issue for a couple of hours, but, instead, chose to say things that were false.

And, also, that ignorance often causes real world issues. The fact that something is stupid doesn't mean that it doesn't have impact. Heck, the pretext for a lot of the USAID stuff was the Gaza/Condom story that could have been prevented with a fairly brief couple of questions to people who knew the program and the fact that it had nothing to do with the Gaza that these idiots thought it did and that it wasn't for condoms anyway.

 

Let me ask again, do internet rumors excuse a person of Musk's position and power telling so many falsehoods?

I don't mind if people want to see how much gold is there, and a virtual tour/reveal might be cool if it's going to be transparent. Perhaps it could be the inverse of Geraldo opening Al Capone's vault - where people will be disappointed if it's not empty. To your question, I think the original post highlights the skepticism or worse surrounding it: potential fun; entertaining political theater; and conspiracy theories.
