If you go undefeated in that tourney are you coonsidered the champ?? If so WDE. Noles were also undefeated, and no interest in playing them right now. Best team Ive seen so far. Will see them in tally regional as always. Speaking of post season, can SEC teams clich a spot prior to SEC play?? lol Just have to be over .500 overall to clinch as sec team(absurd) and most sec games you can lose is 24. Couple teams will be near the 25 win total before sec starts.
Didnt say were undefeated, said only other team to go undefeated at big Clearwater tourney,, their 3rd time doing this. They lost season opener to Ok St(not in C-water tourney), then repaid them in Clearwater w/ a 8-0 run rule.. Ok St looked like poo the 4 or 5 games I watched them
So after 14 games, 3 of them against ranked teams (Michigan & Duke twice), the Gators are 13-1. D1 Softball had us ranked #1 as of 2/11, but when the new rankings come out, probably tomorrow, I imagine we'll drop a spot or two. Mia Williams is vastly improved as a hitter from last season. Taylor Shumaker is a superstar in the making. Our middle infield has not looked good defensively overall. Korbe Otis has not played up to the standards of her All-American year in 2024 - yet. I would like to see Olivia Miller in the circle more often and can't wait until freshman HS AA Kaitlyn "Red" Oxley can start pitching. It's still very early in the year and a lot can happen, but as we all know this is a team with the talent and togetherness to challenge for an SEC & NCAA title. Excited about watching it all play out.
I was taking some time to reflect upon the loss from yesterday; I think it's honestly such a blessing. I'm not saying that any of the players are cocky, but we needed to be humbled. They haven't really had any games that felt challenging or faced any real adversity. This can help build leadership and refocus the team.
Does the fact that Miller has only seen action once alarm you? Wasn't she a top 10 pitcher out of HS? She should be ready to contribute meaningful relief innings yet we only see her vs the absolute worst teams on the schedule. If her mechanics were so bad that she needed to revamp everything, how was she rated so high?
She was a Top 20 pitcher who signed with Ole Miss. Transferred to Florida after only a couple of weeks in Oxford, I think. She was really good in the pre-SEC schedule last year. Had 2 perfect games. But at some point our pitching coach decided to completely change her throwing motion. She got blasted in a game against Michigan, then again against Miss. State, South Carolina & FSU and ended up only throwing 31.2 innings with a 3.09 ERA. I read that she's in better shape this year, plus with a year's expereince and practice under her belt, and as our only lefty, I thought she would be used more often this year that she has - at least so far.
I too was wanting a lefty in the mix to give a different look or a change of pace maybe between two pitchers for a couple of innings. I remember her being a lot of offspeed and low in the zone last year. We need Oxley in the rotation and it would be nice if Miller could provide some relief here and there....not like 4 plus innings but atleast 2 I think would be helpful.
Any thoughts on why the defense has slipped so much? Even Erickson has dipped quite a bit. Maybe too many new roles going on and no comfort level yet?? Seems like even her throws to second are quite inaccurate this year. She may have given up more steals now than the entire year last season.
Uh...San Diego State was also undefeated in Clearwater. Cali Decker is hitting .310 through 10 games with no home runs and 8 rbis. Gigante is on the roster but with limited action. Hitting .222 in nine ab with no extra base hits and no rbis. She is essentially not pitching having thrown only 2/3 of an inning and gave up 2 hits, including a double, but no runs. Pollard transferred from us to Oregon, never played at Oregon, and has now transferred to San Diego State but is not eligible this year.
yep they were. what i get for qouting espn hacks only mentioning fsu/au lastnight. So co co champs?? lol Noles would beat au/sdst combined repeatedly imo. Not sure on their pitching.. I saw Widra start lastnight(au transfer) If shes one of their top 3-4, their pitching has issues..or she got ALOT better
My exact thought. FSU is tough. Good hitting lineup but I'm not convinced their pitching will hold up. It has so far, though.
Does anyone know why we haven't seen Townsen Thomas as of yet. She was the #12 recruit in the nation and supposed to be faster than Kendra.
She is nursing an injury. As par for the course, the program isn't commenting, but some have noticed that while she is dressed, she isn't wearing game shoes. Townsen is a talent. Only Taylor could beat her out. I still think next year's outfield will be Cassidy, Townsen and Taylor and that's fine with me. Only question is which plays center...Taylor or Townsen. Both could equally. Unless my dream is realized and Taylor moves to first which will open another spot in the outfield.
Remember she had Skylar on the recipient end of those throws. Skylar made some quick tags when receiving those throws. It takes two to get the any runner stealing.
And she picked off a runner off of second this weekend. Only an injury would make me worry about Jocey.
Agree on the backend of those steals however the throws have been quite a bit off, I'm not sure Skylar would have converted the out on 2 or 3 of those. She doesn't seem as crisp as last year across the board in all phases, something is off just no clue what it is. Too many little things adding up. Korbe isn't the same. Jocey isn't the same. Reagan isn't the same. Probably something that needs time however that SEC schedule will not give them much of that to figure it out.
Speaking of Skylar, last year she had a BA of around 250 for about the first 60% of the season and ended up batting 404. Jocey and Korbe will end up just fine.
