Great win, would have been easy to phone this one in after the week we had. Loved seeing Micah out there. Clearly rusty, but still affected shots and even had a couple blocks.
I've been saying this all year....I have nothing bad to say about this team. Please Gator basketball fans...please ENJOY THIS team!
Whatever Todd Golden has been telling them at halftime these last 2 games needed to be bottled and sold!! The defensive intensity to start the 2nd half is what triggered the offensive explosion, IMO. Micah played better with 5 assists and much better positioning, Aberdeen had a GREAT game and Thomas Haugh is just a workhorse who is growing in confidence with each game. Reuben had an excellent 2nd half. We had 21 assists to their 7, which shows we were sharing the ball. And that coomes from defense. Another solid win. With Martin back in the rotation and when Micah gets his game legs and lungs back and Condon starts playing again, this team is going to be something to behold. You can tell there is love and comraderie with this team and with Golden's visible passion, they have reached a new level, IMO.
To get on my soap box here, I hate the generic questions. I’m a huge fan of self reflection as knowing your flaws makes you work harder to fix them. Why can’t they ask a real question that makes these guys reflect on that? Like, “Hey, what did you see as your biggest issue last season, and what have you done to get you to where you are now?”
Denzel - 22 points (8-of-12 FG, 5-of-7 3pt, 1-of-2 FT, 2 Reb, 1 Stl, 3 Asst, 0 TO) Haugh - 20 points (6-fo-10 FG, 3-of-6 3pt, 5-of-5 FT, 6 Reb, 2 Stl, 1 Blk, 3 Asst, 1 TO) Martin - 11 points (4-of-7 FG, 3-of-5 3pt, 2 Reb, 2 Stl, 3 Asst, 1 TO) Walter - 10 points (4-of-9 FG, 2-of-6 3pt, 3 Reb, 2 Stl, 5 Asst, 1 TO) Chinyl - 10 points (5-fo-6 FG, 6 Reb, 1 Blk, 0 Asst, 1 TO) Richrd - 8 points (3-of-6 FG, 0-of-2 3pt, 1 Reb, 2 Stl, 1 Blk, 1 Asst, 2 TO)
Martin’s suffocating defense on pg Thomas pretty much shut SC down in the second half. It allowed both Denzel and Haugh to have a lot of open shots. Glad he is back. With Handles back, we are building front line depth. We have a great team with a lot of talent, very deep when all are well.
We have a bunch of guys right now that can carry the team. We hardly miss a beat when someone has an off night.
Denzel will fill the void of PG for next season. TFG needs to find a few guards in the magic portal to try to account for the losses of Clayton, Martin and Richard...
