Unless you missed it, the SMO was prompted in large part by Western proposals to bring Ukraine into NATO.

Man you really do have no clue what you are talking about. They had formally stopped seeking NATO membership until Russia invaded and took Crimea.

I doubt that China much fears a military that has been defeated by rice patty farmers and goat herders and almost lost in Grenada.

I don’t think Russia trusted us after the Budapest Memorandum and Minsk and Minsk 2.0 and …

For years it has been the aim of our State Department to see Putin’s ouster and his country weakened.

If the reverse was true you’d be waking up angry every morning.

I think Russia has been rather restrained.

So let me get this straight. Somehow Putin is worried that we are going to invade him through Ukraine? Oh no couldn’t possibly be that he is seeking to take the valuable farmland and raw materials. Seems more likely to you that he’s worried US is, for no reason, going to initiate the nuclear apocalypse

Here’s a shocker: most people think the Ukrainians should get to choose what they want to do. I’m in no way against Trump facilitating peace talks. What people don’t want is Ukraine strong armed by the US into something. We should also get payment for our investment in the war via raw materials. Something I very much agree with Trump on

Translation: notwithstanding the popular sentiment, if Zelensky doesn’t get to decide, t keep fighting the Russians to the last dead Ukrainian.

More from the Great Idiot Caitlyn Johnstone. Of course the Ukrainians want the war to end. It's literally on their soil. Who wouldn't want the war in their back yard to stop? That doesn't mean that there aren't some other things that the Ukrainians want, that idiots fail to mention. I am fairly certain that Ukrainians want their freedom, and they want Russia out of Ukraine. Communist Caitlyn doesn't think too highly of those wants, now does she, Lee Harvey?

Are you nuts? The Obama administration had Hillary hand Putin a freaking "Reset" button. That's how desperate Obama was to re-establish normal relations with the Stalin-worshipping Putin. How did Putin respond? By invading Crimea. That's how restrained they were. They have invaded multiple neighbors since Putin took power, so that wasn't Putin's first invasion. If Putin wants to play marauding imperialist, then he deserves whatever destruction that a proxy war and international sanctions can conjure up for him.

If Putin would stop invading neighbors, maybe the U.S. State Department would be less interested in seeing him removed from office.

We won the two wars with a relatively modern army equipped with Russian military hardware (Iraq, both times). And we won the military fighting in the other wars, but could not win the peace against an enemy that was not constrained by the Geneva Conventions.

    Has World War III Begun?

In this article by Kori Schake, she states that while WW3 hasn't begun she thinks it's coming and states that the US Military is not prepared for it.

"Even before funneling arms to Ukraine, NATO allies including the U.S. lack the weapons and ammunition to fight wars of high intensity: Ukraine uses as many artillery shells in a month as the U.S. can produce in a year. China has 371 ships in its navy while the U.S. Navy has shrunk to only 290 ships—and China’s shipbuilding can produce 230 times the output we can. Russia now commits a third of its government budget to defense and has retooled its economy to military production. North Korea is providing Russia the troops it needs for the war in Ukraine, Iran is providing its drones, and China is providing the war materiel."

"The best, and cheapest, way to win wars is to prevent enemies from believing they could win."

Also here is a interesting conversation with her and Chris Stirewalt on the Remnant podcast discussing world security (titled "No Peace in our Time"):

It worked for Afghanistan which destroyed the Soviet Union. Some prefer to fight for their freedom where MAGA prefers to curl up in the fetal position.

Top 10 states by spending FY23 are on balance slightly left leaning states. This sounds like a rebalancing of defense spending to friends of Trump.

The top ten states for total Defense spending in Fiscal Year 2023 were:

    Rank State Defense Spending (billions)
    1 Texas $71.6
    2 Virginia $68.5
    3 California $60.8
    4 Florida $32.2
    5 Maryland $27.8
    6 Connecticut $25.3
    7 Pennsylvania $21.8
    8 Arizona $17.0
    9 Massachusetts $16.8
    10 Washington $15.5
