Honestly, my initial reaction was Victoria was robbed, should have gotten the 10. Didn't think Leanne was going to.

That's a much better way of saying it...they COULD win it all just as easily as they COULD be done after regionals...probably a better way of summing them up than my punch in the snout

I'm still sticking with if Sloane does AA there will be one stinker in there, just like others have posted some athletes should only do 1 rotation and not 2. Sloane on bars with the blind reverse dismount either gets her on the right path or gets in the opposite direction. I wish they would change both her and skyes dismount and perhaps more consistency would come. We have been all over the place this year in scores...no way to predict our best rotation anymore.

The rest of the story came after the meet when Sloane was interviewed on tv, she had a concussion and only found out today she'd be allowed to perform in 2 events. I predict UF will be full strength with Sloane in AA next week. On to OU with only the best peforming. I like UF's chance to win so long as CJR does not muck up any of the event teams with lesser gymnasts. UF still has the highest score posted this season and will need a top score to win at OU.

Don't care, UF was missing Sloane on both events. If you are keeping up, you'd know I think UF will win the national championship. Results now are bragging rights. UF won tonight as the Gators should have and posted a good score despite bars, but I want to be able to brag after UF wins at OU. Pleased to know why Sloane was MIA so have moved on, you should too.

I'm still adjusting to the new scoring, as it's obviously tighter this year. But by the eye test (mine at least), we were pretty dominant tonight except for the 2 mishaps on the bars. Just shouldn't have a 16 year old positioned as anchor on any event. Too much pressure. But a very nice win tonight for sure.

The hangover from last week's Beam fiasco was still giving the gymnasts the shakes when they started the meet on Vault. The gymnasts seemed to think "sticks" was short for "pogo sticks" because there were no stick landings. Anya led off after Lazzari was scratched from the line up. Her control and form on her legs are looking great. She had a significant hop forward on her landing, and was lucky they only docked .175 off (judges can take up to .300 off if the hops are significant enough). Anya needs to harness in that power and get her landing under control. Bui going after Anya is a little unfair. Anya flies high and far, and her long lanky body gives the illusion of her flying even higher. Ly under-rotated, causing her to step back. 9.800 was a good score considering being a little off-form. Ferris's only mistake was opening her arms too soon causing her to lose momentum and under-rotated. Otherwise she had a more controlled landing with a small step back. 9.825. Wong's form is impeccable and even though she hopped backwards, she still got a 9.90. I'm not sure why Disadore got an 9.85 instead of a 9.8. Maybe from stepping back with 1 foot planted, instead of a hop? Like Leanne, Selena knows how to stick, but did not have her best vault 9.875 Vault 49.275 Overall, Florida’s vaults were powerful but didn’t have the sticks to open up with a true bang. Time's running out. It would be nice if we could start sticking more consistently.
If someone said to me "the scores on Bars are 9.95, 9.975, and 9.975 for a total of 29.900. I'll give you twenty guesses to correctly give the final Bars score." I would've lost that bet.
Pilgrim started Bars with a bang. It was her best of the season. Stuck full-in dismount 9.950. McCusker's form was clean, a little foot movement back on her landing 9.825. Hopefully she can up her scoring to consistent 9.9+. Skye started good with a perfect first handstand, but missed the bar and fell. She was near-perfect when she repeated her routine 9.325. Wong (9.975) and Harris-Miranda (9.975) both got 10's-from 1 judge. The Gators were 1 hit away from a very high score. During Bui's routine, she lands on top of the bar but doesn't fall, scores 9.0. The two big mistakes were by freshmen. For the second week in-a-row, the Gators are forced to count a fall. The hangover continues. 49.050
Beam started out shakey. Skylar started. On her switch half, she had a decent balance check. Overall nice flow in the routine. She landed with small step forward on back 1.5 to dismount. 9.750 They hammered her on balance check. Skylar needs to forget her last two meet performances on Beam like they never happened, and get her mojo back. Who's not lacking confidence is Sloane! God bless Sloane! Her routine was smooth with no balance checks. She ended with stuck gainer full, fun finger pointing celebration. She always knows how to end a routine! 9.900 Has Sloane righted the sinking ship? Next was Pilgrim, who was her usual smooth, calm self, until the gainer full step back on her landing 9.850 Nguyen looked the best I've seen her on Beam. She attacked with her usual grace and got a 10.000 from one judge 9.975. The Gators are starting to click again! Leanne's having a great night. Easy execution on leaps, BHS LOSO dead on, a new beautiful dismount . There's a liiiiiitle shuffle in place on the dismount, but I guess the judges didn't see it. The first Perfect 10 of the season 10.00 Selena's Beam was so much better than last week, leaps were fine, front aerial no hesitation, sticks landing 9.975 Beam total 49.700 That's a 1.600 improvement from last week, and the nation's highest Beam score to date.
The only mistake on Floor was Taylor stepping out-of-bounds. She looked great, but needs to reign in all that energy. Luckily we were able to drop her score. Victoria was near-perfect 9.925, same score as Selena. Sloane gets another 10.00 on Floor. She was oozing with confidence, and it seemed to have been contagious. Floor total 49.600
    VT UB BB FX Total
    Florida 49.225 49.050 49.700 49.600 197.625
    Auburn 48.925 49.300 49.175 49.425 196.825

Leanne and Selena tied for AA 39.750

After the first two rotations, I was all doom and gloom. The Gators looked so out of it. Like a deer in the headlights. It did not help that I was also watching the LSU-Oklahoma meet.
There was a big difference in the confidence levels and the swag that these two teams showed compared to Florida's. Then the Gators woke up out from the lingering doldrums of a week ago, and were looking like a championship-calibar team. Let's keep it rolling next week and welcome Oklahoma to the SEC and their first home loss in years. We can do it!!
    Go Gators!

With all of that swag and a 1 vs. 2 matchup, LSU scored 198.015 and Oklahoma scored 197.675. The tiggers scored .1 less than UF's top score of the season and the sooners barely edged UF on the night. UF scored 197.625 after doing lousy on vault and bars.

Folks, it's time to celebrate, not panic. UF has a national championship caliber team. Hopefully, CJR treats the meet at OU like the coaches did at LSU last night. Women's college gymnastics needs these compelling meets to justify national TV coverage and to further increase the popularity of the sport. Go kick the sooner's butt Gators. Dang straight it can be done.

EDITED: Through Saturday Meets - Michigan State broke a tie with Missouri after the Friday meets. Oregon State has the opportunity to knock Auburn out of the top 10 this afternoon at a meet in Denver.

Team NQS (national qualifying score) starts after week 6: Current top 10 through Friday night as reported by Road to Nationals:

    1. Oklahoma 197.730
    2. UCLA 197.455
    3. LSU 197.420
    4. Utah 197.235
    5. Florida 197.190
    6. California 197.075
    7. Michigan State 197.010
    8. Missouri 196.995
    9. Kentucky 196.950
    10. Auburn 196.785

Keep in mind that UF started in week 2 instead of week 1. UF will go up after both the opener against Michigan State and week 5 at Arkansas are eliminated from NQS consideration. Utah scored 196.600 in a win at Arizona last night so it is almost certain that UF will move back above the Red Rocks next week. This is no time to be overly concerned about NQS.

The top 10 will likely look a bit different at the end of week 6 on Sunday night. Michigan State is performing Saturday night and Oregon State won't have an NQS until after their meet on Sunday.

The surprise on the list to me is UCLA. I know the bruins are good, probably nobody better with their "Dance Party" on floor including LSU, but at #2 just surprised me. The bruins have been hot lately.

That last round of the OU/LSU match was something else. Don't get me wrong, LSU did good, and OU definitely lost on the beam.. but LSU had more than a 0.4 point swing on the floor at home.

Above from page 10, post #193:

Midseason check to see how my preseason ranking predictions are doing. Currently, I'm batting .800 on my top 10 predictions:

Denver is not a top 10 team which I realized when I watched them in week 1.

With a good finish, Arkansas could climb into the top 10 putting me at .900.

I was too hard on Kentucky.

Oregon State is proving to be a surprise to the good side.

Haleigh is back in LSU's Vault line-up and scored 9.95. LSU's Vault total vs Oklahoma was 49.600. Their last 4 vault score are (earliest to latest): 49.350, 49.550, 49.450, 49.600, or around +.100 Ours are: 49.550, 49.400, 49.375, 49.275. These are -.100 differences each week. We should be improving each week. We are trending the wrong way. Vault will be the difference in winning or not winning a natty.

It is the top Beam score in the NCAA so far this year. We have the top two Beam scores- 49.700 and 49.675-in the NCAA so far this year. That's why the 48.100 at Arkansas was so puzzling.
