Funny we say things like this. I bet some of our assistants think our recent organizational additions are bitch moves.
If the reports from a few “insiders” from the end of last year are to be believed and there was a clash of personalities then Harris and a few others were going to be the odd ones out because they were already outside Napiers circle especially in regards to Roberts. So yeah, I don’t blame him. I’m not as concerned with the loss in his coaching as I am with the loss of his recruiting. He was primary or secondary on a lot of talent brought in.
Ron Roberts suddenly turned this defense around mid season and we saw it improve every game until it was playing at a high level. I'm sure we will hire another good coach and Coach Roberts will be apart of the hiring process, so he will get what he wants for his defense.
USA Today reported that Cristobal made 7.7M in base salary in 2024 and an additional 14.9M in “other reportable compensation”. It could be as simple as the money. Or at the very least money could be the biggest part of the equation. As was the case with Rashada, UM gets a stiffy at the thought of sticking it to UF.
They cleared some things up on Hightop Sports. I’m not as upset now, but I do understand his desire to leave. If the contract stuff is true, ouch. I probably would have as well. Losing a good recruiter to a major competitor on the trail still sucks. * * * * * Here's the video MarineG8R was talking about. Go to 11:41. It wouldn't give a link that started there (sorry).
I agree with your statement and question. In my opinion, Armstrong's departure was due to a riff. It appears that his leaving the Gators was so that he will regain the play game time calling role that he lost to Roberts. However, we have to note that the Gator Defense became more of an asset than a liability in the second half of the season. A good part of that change was due to the Defensive Secondary being consistently good at making big plays. Why did Harris leave for Miami? The hiring of Vinnie Sunseri to coach Florida’s safeties and serve as co-defensive coordinator looks to be a deciding factor. Could be Harris saw a better future at UM. What is odd here is that Harris's move is more of a lateral transfer instead of a promotion. Could be that Miami offered more money. Or it could be a riff.
