Former Gator QB Kyle Morris has sadly passed away. Cancer sucks! "No, I'm not bitter at all. Things happen. And I made some mistakes," said Morris. "My name came up in some things that were negative, but I still love the Gators. My dream growing up was to go to the University of Florida. So I not only got to be a Gator, I got to run through that tunnel, be the starting quarterback, hand the ball to Emmitt Smith and win some big games."
I came across this Chris Harry piece (from 2017) last fall. Kyle was a class act through it all. Catching Up With ... Kyle Morris - Florida Gators
One of my kids earliest memories.. driving down the interstate heading to N.O. to pick up a stranded friend.. listening to the gators on the radio.. I can’t remember the opponent.. but Kyle Morris was Qb.. throwing bombs to Stacey Simmons… We sat so quietly listening to the old fm radio in my truck, I love that memory.. I write all this to stop from ranting against cancer. I hate it. Always will. Kyle gave me and my kid good memories in his formative years.. I’ll remember Kyle for that.
He shut down the narrative that he may come out of the game pretty quickly. RIP KM. Is that Braves broadcast legend Pet Van Weiren on the play by play? Thats pretty cool. Never a Braves fan, but when I was a kid they were the only team on every day along with The Cubs. Used to listen to Skip Carey and PVW all the time. Also, can we please have some games with that script Gators in the end zone and the block F. What a great combo.i forgot about that.
First, my sincere condolences to his family and friends. It breaks my heart to see one of our Gator brothers go so long before his time. TBH, I always looked back on Kyle's time as a Gator somewhat wistfully. If I recall correctly, the 93-yard TD pass posted by Krono Gator was the only TD pass we threw that season. Personally, I always felt that Galen failed to properly utilize Kyles arm strength and physicality during his time at UF. In fact, I was totally gob smacked when Coach Hall did so much really creative scheming for Danny Wuerfel at the Rhine Fire in the old World Foot Ball league. Coach Hall and Danny really dropped some bombs on Dusseldorf that year. After the vanilla O we saw at UF after Kerwin departed, I literally didn't think Galen had a good passing scheme in him. RIP.
Morris had 3TD passes in 1988, so just a few more than your memory serves. Isn't that weird to think though, 3 TD passes ALL year... total!
Simple Answer: We had Emmitt (and Whitey Jordan was hired as OC, who's specialty was the ground and pound).
Thanks for the correction. My initial thought about Kyle being wasted as a passer is largely based on that superb ball that went for 93 yards and a TD. I did see where that number ballooned all the way to 10 total team passing TDs in 1989. Maybe I'm being a little tough on Galen's acumen in the passing game.
