Thanks for posting this. I saw this pop up on twitter about the luxury hotel garbage and I knew that was bologna, but I think it's important to be honest about what this is. This is not FEMA disaster relief money being spent - this is money, appropriated by congress, to be spent on this exact thing.

Shelter and Services Program | FEMA.gov.

The Shelter and Services Program (SSP), as directed by Congress in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, is administered by FEMA in partnership with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). In Fiscal Year 2024, Congress appropriated $650,000,000 for SSP.

So, to be clear, this was approved by a republican controlled congress. And FEMA was just authorized to be the institution that distributed the funds.

Whether or not that is wasteful is not what i'm debating right now - but this was not some shadow government transaction. This was literally approved by a republican congress.......

Your idea of 'humane' is pretty messed up (you are mad we paid for shelter!), but again, evidence of the conservative mindset.

I am disgusted that joey let them all in here- I am disgusted that we are paying for them to live in hotels in NYC and who knows where else. I am disgusted that we are paying millions for their upkeep. I am disgusted that liberals want us to over look our laws and just allow them to stay.

This is what hate and inhaling conservative media will do to a mind. You should take a break and fix yourself.

following our laws and expecting them to be enforced is NOT hate.
I have nothing to fix - I am very comfortable with my core beliefs

Given your flexibility on laws in regards to your in-group, it appears that belief in laws is not actually a core belief. Rather, it is the belief in laws that bind but don't protect the out-groups and protect but don't bind the in-groups.

They have been enforced all your life, you just want them enforced with much more cruelty than they already are (which is pretty cruelly TBH), which is why your mind needs fixing. Given all the ignoring of the law conservatives are doing, it clearly isnt a law thing, its a racism thing.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm extremely skeptical of any "news" article that begins with the phrase "Musk says". Same when the source of an acting agency head appointed by Trump. I would also add that immigrants with pending asylum claims or temporary protected status are not illegal.

It looks like Secretary Noem is:

“As Secretary Noem said yesterday, we must get rid of FEMA the way it exists today," McLaughlin told The Associated Press on Monday. "This is yet another egregious example. Individuals who circumvented leadership and unilaterally made this payment will be fired and held accountable.

FEMA halts migrant housing funds in NY after Musk’s criticism

Who benefits from us deporting this man? He doesn't. He loses his job and income. His family doesn't. They lose their breadwinner and will be out on the streets. His kids also lose a father; kids who are all American citizens by the way. We certainly don't win, because instead of a family being housed and paying their bills, these kids will now go on foodstamps and we'll likely pay for temporary housing. The man's employer doesn't win either, since he lost an employee.

So other than blind, idiotic devotion to the law, give me one good reason why this man should be deported if everyone loses out in the process?
