By: Eric Fawcett -- February 9, 2025 After handing the Auburn Tigers their first loss of the SEC season the Florida Gators (20-3, 7-3 SEC) will be riding high when they head to Starkville to take on Mississippi State (17-6, 5-5 SEC). Obviously the win wouldn’t be quite as impressive, but it’d be crazy impressive to follow up that Auburn with another top 25 road win. Who guards Kugel? That’ll be interesting…
If it matters, following two games are home games against lower-part-of-conference teams. Might tip the scales in favor of sitting him for a road game.
Great write up, Eric! "Currently Mississippi State is 19th in Ken Pom’s adjusted offensive efficiency metric, and they’ve accomplished that by being excellent in transition, precise in the half court, and dominant on the offensive glass.' That's an impressive list of offensive virtues.
Mid-week game in Mississippi vs a tough physical team after the emotional high of beating #1 at their place. The first road win over an AP #1 in school history I might add. What an emotional high. With only 2 days of rest. Talk about a test of character and grit and of Golden's ability. I'll say this- if we win this one, and beat the teams we should beat the rest of the way, we are in line for a #1 seed, IMO.
If we match their key successes we win. I love that line “precision in the half court.” We are the best team in the country when that ball flows and it’s beautiful.
After smashing then-number one Tennessee at home, we went to Arkansas on two days rest and gutted out a win. We can do this again!
We are playing Tuesday, so that's not a day of rest! So try counting again?? Also the last time we went on a mid-week road trip we barely eked out a win vs mediocre South Carolina. We need more than that effort to beat Miss State- I believe. As I said- if we win this, then beat the rest of the teams we should, IMO we will get a #1 seed.
