Yes there Receiving talent is group of 5 level and there best went to Auburn. Not much you can do when the money isn’t allocated there by higher ups.
Well I wasn’t and nobody is paying me 7.5 million to post predictable I do it for the love of the game. He can go coach middle school football for free and be predictable if he’d like.
Waites was displaced by BCD pretty quickly.....and Devin Manuel was giving us some quality reps before getting hurt. Other than Lovett getting some work as the third guard who else was playing any real snaps? Some of the backups were playing special teams but there was no OL rotation.
It was just Waites starting at RT in the UM game that was a problem. I have no idea how he started over BCD. He must really play well in practice. Waites didn’t play OT the rest of the year after the UM game. He played some OG during the year and was OK. He started at RG in the bowl and was not OK. He was a big downgrade from George. If Waites returns in 2025 I don’t see how he’ll be in the 2-deep. I wish Kearney and Jones played more last year. They didn’t establish themselves as redshirt freshmen like Lovett did or how Barber and Slaughter did in 2022. They need to have strong springs or could be passed by the 2024 freshmen. They played well in the bowl game, especially Kearney. Big spring for the 2024 freshmen, too- Westphal, Portagin, Mascoll, Wangoy and Zandamela. They’ll be battling Kearny and Jones for four 2-deep spots. We’ll see who steps up.
That pretty much puts to bed the OL rotation myth. Per your post above....i agree that we would be better off if there had been a greater mix. Even the guys that redshirt can play in 4 games and get quality reps. Kearney was dinged a lot, think he would have gotten Lovett type snaps if healthy
Coach Sarkisian has assumed play-calling duties for the UT offense since his arrival to Austin in 2021 and despite a few lapses this season, the results were extremely positive. https://athlonsports.com/college/te...-he-wont-stop-doing-ahead-of-texas-ohio-state
Are we really going to compare Sark to Napier? If Napier was running his offense at the same level as Sark, then nobody would be complaining. The issue is our offense is average, and for most fans that isn’t good enough.
Yes, I didn't consider the time he missed during the season. He endedup playing extended minutes in the bowl and played well. He's clearly the 7th OL heading into spring.
Should be. I see an experienced top six- Barber, Harris, Slaughter, George, Manuel and Lovett. Two underclassmen as the 7th and 8th guys- Kearney at OG/OC and Westphal at OT (LT specifically). Then Jones, Zandamela, Portagin, Wangoy and Mascoll looking for spots. It'll be an intersting spring.
Not really. It doesn’t account for whether players were rotated between positions during a game, whether they were at a different position, etc. The OL snap count for the Miami game was as follows: Offensive line Jake Slaughter: 56 Damieon George: 47 Kneijah Harris: 41 Austin Barber: 39 Kamryn Waites: 31 Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson: 31 Devon Manuel: 17 Bryce Lovett: 15 Rod Kearney: 3 So we had 9 OL play during the Miami game. We had 7 OL play during the TAM game and UT games. 6 OL during the LSU and Ole Miss games. The rotation shortened and we played better later in the year. So we were rotating and playing more OL during the Miami game than we were later in the year, which was my point. I don’t agree with the rotating that Napier does, because it can prevent players from getting into a rhythm. The QB rotation was a cluster, as it didn’t allow either QB to get into a rhythm. We pull RBs who are hot and then stall out drives. Those are concerns I have with the staff and want to see improvement on.
I question how Waites was the starter at RT in the first place. We played 9 OL in the Miami game. We were rotating OL positions almost every series. When we went on the season ending win streak, we had a fixed 6 man rotation. It shouldn’t take half the season to determine who needs to be on the field at what position. Maybe it had something to do with not hitting during fall practice, which was a WTF moment when most of us heard it. We finally started hitting again in practice and the team and defense started looking better. When your RB is as hot as Johnson was, why do you take the ball out of his hands? The lack of feel for when to call certain plays is an issue with Billy. Maybe he can improve on that, but next year will tell the tale.
What I do know is there wasn't a problem with too many OL playing to start the season. The only problem was Waites starting against UM.
The only comparision I was making is that they both call plays. I answered the question, "Are there any playoff coaches who act as their own coordinator?" For the record, like most on here, I would prefer Napier hire an offensive coordinator.
The OL situation in the Miami game gas been covered. You said it was like a scrimmage with a rotation....that is flat out incorrect.....as has been discussed already. BCD replaced Waites, Lovett got some work as a 3rd OG, and Manuel got some snaps and played well. But it wasn't a rotation. You act like things changed as season progressed. Only that Manuel got hurt and BCD stayed at RT. There wasn't any other "change". It's comically you act like something changed because 9 OL played vs UM and then 7 played. The only thing that changed was injury to Manuel and Kearney(losing his 3 plays)...and Waites getting beaten out. I took apart your argument about no teams in playoffs rotating RB....guess you conveniently missed that. Face it, uf has quality backs and rotates them...as they should. Just like all those schools in the playoffs
All the statistics, opinions, spite, and wishful thinking aside, a 19-19 record and another offseason that looks pretty much like any other has me excited about mowing the lawn on football Saturdays… all 8 acres of it… with a push mower. I, being the optimist that I am, will then credit Napier for my astounding physical rebound and plummeting body fat percentage.
