After the seven regular season SEC title winning seasons: #8) 2025: 74-43 over #1 Tennessee (in GVll) #9) 2025: 90-81 over #1 Auburn (at Auburn) There were many other wins over top 5/top 10 teams over the years, I did not make a thorough search: 2006-07: a win over #3 Ohio St, 86-60 2020: a win over #4 Auburn, 69-47 2022: a win over #2 Auburn, 63-62 Florida kind of owns Auburn with all of their wins when the Tigers were ranked so high.
Sadly / stupidly I lost it somehow in my move from Florida to Atlanta in 2009. But I was body painted with David Lee’s jersey number and my Gator wig.
I don't know about where this win ranks, but this is shaping up to be the best regular season we have had since 2014.
The 2013-2014 was my all time favorite. I was literally going to say that when asked the question. I watched that game 10 more times from start to finish and loved every second of it. Hey, don't look at me like that.....I have a problem when it comes to Gator basketball ok..lol
That was one I was thinking of as it was my final game as an undergrad (thankfully, I stuck around as for a masters and the 04s national titles). Hard to explain how big of a deal that was. We could never beat Kentucky before that game. I came in the same year as Lee and we never beat them until that game (Senior "Night").
The other one that I thought about: 2006-2007 season, beating Greg Oden's OSU in December in a preview of the national title game about 2 weeks before we beat them for the football title as well.
After a handful of games this year, most of us here were saying, on a good night this bunch can beat ANY team.
For me one of our greatest wins, at least in retrospect was Nov 19, 2005. We beat #16 Syracuse in NY 75-70 in the 2K Hoops Classic in a game we had little expectation of winning. We got knocked out in the first round of the tourney the year before and had lost David Lee, Matt Walsh and “Peep” (from deep) Antony Roberson. We started one junior and four sophomores, only one of which had seen significant playing time. I remember thinking as I watched the game, these guys are pretty good and they really look like they are having fun. We had some limited success but were by no means a “basketball school”. The rest, as they say, is history and we were never the same. Picture from the game.
Good call. I put the opening game versus Wake on the list. Wake was also ranked at the time, and we went in not knowing what kinda team we hade. That weekend in NY was huge.
I think what we are finding out is that this Gator team is also ridiculously good and very well-coached.
This one ranks up there, but I would tend to lean toward wins over UK as best ever. Today's win, though, should be considered the best win in the NCAA this year. Probably some good ones out there, but our Gator boys went AT #1 and all their accolades + the Broome POY love fest and handed them their asses. This has to be the best win of the season for any team.
At this point, it's arguable that the Gators' best game can't be beat. Folks will claim that this rings alarm bells in the SEC (true) and that every team will give us their best shot, but that works both ways. Teams will also fear the Gators, a team that fears nobody.
Was there a win against Kansas out west at a neutral site? Maybe with the 2013 team? Or maybe I'm mixing that with the 04s. They made some statements in the non-conference, but the biggest reg season wins imo would have to be against the pussy kittens.
