Where does this rank in all-time Gator wins (NOT including post season)? I gotta think about it…. But it’s gotta be very, very high. Our win over Kentucky, when Teddy jumped on the scoreboard… that seemed a very big, statement win.
Not including postseason - given this is our first win @ #1 I'd say the best regular season win ever. The fact that Golden coached for Pearl makes it that much sweeter too. I'm sure will accept their next dinner invitation
Watching Auburn play I honestly thought we had very little chance winning this...but when we're on our game we're as good as any team in the country. Take away our 1st half against Missouri and 2nd half against Tenn, and we have played as well as any team in the country.
The ones I can think of that warrant consideration…. Aforementioned win over Kentucky- a statement win that Billy and Florida were gonna be for real. win over Wake Forest in NYC, putting nation on notice about Florida team. win over Kentucky in final regular season game - to give the 2013-2014 team a perfect 18-0 sec record.
Beating #1 on the road like a drum cannot be beat. The game at Rupp where White Chocolate went nuts was one I treasure. The Chandler Parson's heave to beat NC State was fun. Stacey Poole with the game winner against Vandy (no, he didn't travel Eddie Fogler) was also great. Post season we have a number of great memories.
winner! This was absolutely the biggest win ever! Why? It was the first I ever attended… reluctantly. I was a die hard Iona fan, and felt like a traitor. But I finally went… and the rest is history.
Usually, the games that clinched the SEC title in the regular season should be considered as the best ones: 1989: Florida's win over Vandy clinches the school's first SEC title. The next win on the road against LSU gave that 1989 SEC title outright. 1988-89 Men's Southeastern Conference Season Summary | College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com 1988-89 Florida Gators Men's Schedule and Results | College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com Other SEC title seasons: 2000 (4-way tie), 2001 (?2-way tie), 2007, 2011, 2013, 2014
Beating UK in the 2005 season finale, then again the SEC tourney championship, were biggies since they broke us out of a slump against them. Ending Maryland’s home win streak was another (2002?). But this one was still better than those. Massive statement for a young coach. His plan is working.
I was at the 2005 season finale against UK. David Lee’s last game in the O’Dome! Matt Walsh jumped up on press row because the Rowdy Reptiles weren’t storming the court and I high fived him and was on the front page of the Alligator
#1 that Auburn team is a juggernaut and it was never in doubt after the slow start on their home court and home cooking.
