Notice article is one day old, but Elsner is hired! Report: Florida Hiring Ben Elsner in Front Office Role
I have said Napier was a couple thousand assistants of us winning a NC, but after last seasons results, I humbly will keep my trap shut.
"If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times, as director of Football Strategy I cannot emphasize enough the necessity of our Offense scoring more and our Defense ensuring our opponents score less. Who is with me? Thank you, gotta run. I will be in my office if you have any more questions."
Sounds like revenue sharing in the SEC is paying for hires? UF coach Billy Napier makes two key hires for Gators
Director of Football Strategy...fancy name...hopefully that strategy can include strategizing a semi functional two minute offense and calling successful trick plays at the opportune time.
And that's kind of the point, the right hand doesn't always understand what the left hand is doing (of course, I see this every night on my television, so go figure!). Supposedly, there are those who review football operations, but the problem of clock management, slow playcalling, not enough players on the field persists. I love my Gators, but the occasionally embarrassing stuff on the field needs to get fixed! I am not against BN, but certain issues should get eliminated by all of the supporting staff!
My point is that I believe this to be more of a general manager type job — more strategic than tactical
I've been extra busy this week but if this is the one I'm thinking of . . . it has more to do with NIL opportunities and application for the roster as a whole. There may be other functions though. It's very frustrating and hard to know who is responsible for what with all the coaches and co-everythings and army and their different titles. Tough to hold anyone accountable . . . which may have been the point all along.
Strategic and tactical are rarely used with our on-field product these days. Maybe just call him a GM and lose the fancy schmancy words designed to make people think more of that position. He is just an off field GM. That being said I still say we have someone prune the vines and slim down the payroll so we can have less expense for the 200 assistant somethings and then you can actually have a responsible party when things arent performing rather than slapping another assistant on top of something that is underperforming. Ive got a unique and original name (the likes of which the world has ever seen) its called DOGE....Department of "Gator" efficiency.
I believe there will be another hire he reports to....but our GM is Lafrance and he is already in place
