Trump just announced that he will be signing an Executive Order eliminating all promotions for paper straws over plastic ones. I must have a profound misunderstanding of E O's if they can be used for issues on this subterranean level. https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...sidency-news/#link-F3HYBUCIHJABDAVIVXABDLCP44
1. He cant do that. 2. Plastic straws are a gimmick. Americans arent filling the oceans with plastic strays. We toss them in the trash with our empty starbucks cup. No one says, "Lemme toss this cup real fast but lemme keep the straw to toss into the ocean". It is 200% a marketing ploy. There are studies that show it really has no inpact. 3. He still can't do it.
Do what I do, when I get a paper straw I ask for 8 more. Yeah, it's more trash but it's more biodegradable so there's that.
I assumed the dissolving straws phase ended awhile back because I don't remember getting one recently.
Of course, no one's making a special trip to the beach to dispose of their plastic straws. I think it's more about biodegradable vs. here forever. I don't know anything about manufacturing processes, but perhaps it is more energy efficient to make paper straws, less pollution, cheaper base materials, etc. Someone needs to tell him he can't do it. Why can't he do it?
I just issued an executive order declaring that straws are for babies who dont know how to use their mouth
The argument here at the coast is it ends up in the water. Pretty sure we dont dump our starbucks trash cans off the pier. Some studies/reports have stated that a little known secret is that plastic straws are made from already harvested material (for other purposes) while paper straws require separate deforestation while also noting the products that make paper waterproof are forever chemicals similar to plastic. Reads on the subject... Plastic or paper? The truth about drinking straws Paper straws toxic chemicals make them worse than plastics, study says The paper versus plastic straws debate.
I'm so old I remember when paper straws were the norm. Although they were available in the '50s it plastic straws didn't become the default until the sixties.
