Scott Stricklin was at softball tonight. He is a guy I know that she just could not fill her tank for another season.
And that is why women's basketball is still where its at. I'll risk losing players to the portal to get the right experienced HC. The portal is just how things are nowadays. Happy to hear we aren't just handing things over to Boos. I'd prefer someone new with a different approach.
He should hear them, but they also have a very (understandably) myopic view. Boos was 32-62 in his one stint as a head coach at Ball State. And with the talent we have and SEC money, there could be some heavy hitters interested. A 10 or more year success run outweighs a few players, even ones as good as KM. That said, it’s SS, so I have little faith he gets it right.
BUT STILL, IF UR BEST PLAYER JUST POSTED ANOTHER TIKTOK (that makes 2) ABOUT WANTING DAVE, U CANNOT IGNORE THAT. He has to know the team can do it, plus I believe Dave can do it!!!
Supposedly Booth had a lot of new and fresh idea, but Mary did not do much of them. So I believe he is the best option going forward.
There are several excellent vb coaches out there. Wouldn’t mind plucking Pitts or Stanford’s coach. Swing big. Jmo
Stucky has also commented on wanting Boos!! My bad on not properly typing his name. SS cannot ignore this. If he goes with someone else, he risks losing all top players
I believe the athletic department will make the right hire to replace Mary, a living legend and just a superb human being. Miss you already Mary. This decision will likely be within about 5-6 days and will be a select group consensus within the department. This is a high profile hire and the interest in the job is through the roof. Dave is likely to be the new coach IMO and rightly so but there are really good coaches who want this job. The players obviously love him and he is a good choice. He also is just a great guy. If he is chosen, he will beat out some really good candidates. Let’s see how this plays out. The athletic department hit a home run choosing Todd Golden and IMO will do so again for our beloved volleyball program. Go Gators! I really believe this team that will travel to Europe in May to play professionals and hone their skills has a legitimate chance to be really special this coming season. Mary knows this too but it was time in her life to choose family. Ha, been there, done that!
I wonder if the heavy lift of a Europe tour is what pushed Wise to this decision. Her comments about her batteries not being charged were telling with an unusual offseason coming up. There was never going to be an easy time to step away. Ideal move in my mind would be an elite female coach AND keep Boos as associate head coach. But that's hard to pull off
If Boos is so good, why has he been an assistant coach all of these years and not been sought out for a head coaching job elsewhere? Maybe he has and I’m not aware of it. I think a nation wide search is warranted and if he comes out as the best choice, so be it.
If we had a a competent AD I'd agree. But ai don't think we do so I'd rather keep the players and roll the dice
Remember I posted this on December 1 as a possibility but Mary pulled the plug a year sooner. Maybe John Cook retiring influenced Mary's decision.
I agree with Kirby. This job deserves a deep dive. Knock on some doors you wouldn't think getbopened just to be sure. We are already losing a bit of ground within our own conference and injuries put us back further. I personally think a fresh approach is needed, not just a tweak or two. Players are like us too, nobody likes change but at times it's adapt or fail.
Was just reading Jordan Lawson stepped down from assistant coach at Nebraska just over a week ago. IF our AD insists on new up and comers I think she warrants a good hard look After all, how much experience did Nary come here with?
Mary had 10 years of coaching at Iowa St and UK....Lawson has 1 year as an assistant. There is no comparison
