Of course it’s serious and no one has disputed that. Steps have been taken to reduce their impact already. Deaths are dropping, already down 21% since summer 2023, and will continue to fall. Starting an unnecessary trade war with the US’s closest anlly over a relatively small impact is mind-numbingly stupid. But again, par for the course.

What trade war? Your side has been building up this imaginary trade war. Where is it?

It’s fun to pretend that China is afraid of us.

Sorry, anything that kills 700 people a year does not rise to the level of a "very serious matter" worthy of destabilizing centuries of alliances.

Now comes the part where you accuse me of not caring about fentanyl overdoses. You know it's not true so you project and claim I'm trying to fit a narrative. Meanwhile:

    Lol wut?

Not putting any words in your mouth. You want to focus on 99%. Why not focus on 100%? Unless you’re ok with all deaths associated with that 1%

So you figure that if we stopped all the Fentanyl coming in from Canada, even 1% of fentanyl users will just give it up because it will become too hard to find drugs in the US?

I mean, I could light my house on fire to make toast, but I think I'll use the toaster instead.

I nearly lost my son-in-law last year to Fentanyl overdose. He got hooked on opiods after some difficult joint surgeries. Then secretly migrated into mail order fenanyl use. He OD and my daughter was fortunate she got him to the emergency room very quickly and they were able to save his life. He has gone through recovery and is about a year plus "sober". I understand your point that it is a "legal" drug per FDA but I believe that is about to change. It's isn't the only part of our drug epidemic but it's a significant part of it and from my point of view better to attack a part of the problem than not deal with it at all.

Hope no one is waiting on a delivery from Temu.

US Postal Service suspends incoming parcels from China and Hong Kong

The US Postal Service (USPS) says it has suspended the acceptance of incoming international parcels from China and Hong Kong until further notice, threatening the business models of e-commerce giants Shein and Temu.

It did not provide a reason for the suspension, but said in a statement Tuesday the flow of letters will not be affected. USPS did not provide any additional information on the suspension when contacted by CNN.

The announcement comes just days after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order that terminated the “de minimis” exemption, a long-standing rule that allowed anyone, including exporters, to ship packages worth less than $800 to the United States without duties or needing to undergo inspections.

It also follows the introduction of a broad-based 10% tariff on Chinese imports to the US, which took effect on Tuesday.

My child might tell me he did his chores, but until I provide leverage, he won't do them. Same with Canada. Corrupt Myorkas was never going to follow up to see if the Canadians did what they proposed to do, and he didn't want them to. The optics sounded good, though. Trump is giving them 30 days to produce, or he will impose the tariffs.

Are you insinuating Mexico sent troops to the border, and they stayed there during the Biden administration? How many? What was the duration they stayed? Did they actually go and participate because we had 10 million documented crossings in the last 4 years? Thats just the documented. These additional new real live in the flesh 10,0000 soldiers will add five extra people per mile to help secure the border. Biden never threatened tariffs because he wanted a weak border.

Then there was Panama and Colombia. Crazy how everyone is willing to help.

As a reminder, they proposed this in December 2025.

    They did.

Varying amounts per year. Generally around 10K. Exactly that in 2021.

Individually, or in general? The Mexican military has had a heavy presence on both their northern and southern border since 2019, with the exception of during Covid in 2020.

You think that they are spreading out and standing there for 24 hours a day? Yeah, that is not how any of this works.

But yes, deploying troops on borders is not an effective manner of stopping immigration. And you just showed it!

There were 107,500 drug-related deaths in the U.S. last year. Fentanyl represents 0.65%, or, to a Trumper, the vast majority of drug-related deaths.

U.S. Overdose Deaths Decrease in 2023, First Time Since 2018

It's a 2,000 mile border, for crying out loud. If it takes one soldier every 200' to secure the border, it would take 50,000 troops to secure the border, per shift. With four shifts working, you would need 200,000 troops. And those are just the troops standing guard. For every troop on post, you might have 3-4 personnel cooking, cleaning, guarding their bases, plus doctors, dentists, lawyers, leaders, maintenance mechanics, supply clerks, drivers, etc. So probably 400-600,000 soldiers. If the average cost of a soldier is $100,000/yr (with salary, benefits, etc.), all that adds up to about $40-60 billion a year, if my math is correct. All to keep people out that we need to pick our fruits and vegetables, cut and package our meats, and repair our houses, not to mention keep our average crime rates down. You Trumpers sure like to waste money.

This link says 74,702 Fentanyl deaths out of 107,543 total overdoses. Not sure where you are getting .65% of drug deaths.
