I think I'm going to have to block him. Hate doing that, but with the 3 or 4 I've done so far, it's magnificent. But his posting GIFing is barely grade-school level. Embarrassing to see on this board.
Interesting factoid. Although foreign aid represents a very small percentage of the total US budget according to surveys going back decades Americans thought that the amount of foreign aid was much greater than the actual amount. This is from 2020. Cutting Foreign Aid is Not the Answer to Our Debt Crisis | George W. Bush Presidential Center Polls show that Americans believe foreign aid makes up 25 percent of our national budget. The reality, that it makes up less than 1 percent of the budget, is a small price to pay to help stabilize the world.
Let's face it. Americans are just not very smart. We are very hard workers, generally, just not smart.
We do currently have a lying liar lying to us, and a huge right-wing fake news apparatus lying to us, both of which are encouraging our population to consume misinformation supplied by Russia. And a great many of our self-identifying "conservative", "spiritual" and "patriotic" people embrace all of this. It's embarrassing.
The ironic unintended consequence is, Central and S. American countries are some of the bigger recipients of USAID. Know what happens when people can't find enough food to feed themselves in their home country? They emigrate to greener pastures. I would expect another influx of immigrants at our border in the next six months and more immigrant caravans through Mexico as the money dries up to buy food in Venezuela and C. American Triangle countries. Similar thing happened in 2019 when Trump cut aid to these countries and we saw an influx of immigrants. Only difference this time is just how much of a shithole country will Trump and President Musk make the US?
“their master is the globe and not the United States……Their basic attitude is we don't work for anyone" So that’s what Musk concluded in a few hours along with his college interns and decided to close it all down. Now, Marco coming in after Musk’s decision and using maga dog whistles for Trump Followers.
Translation: Rank insubordination = Commitment to the role of the agency as mandated by Congress in face of a concerted effort to circumvent the will of Congress under the direction of an unhinged billionaire with no government experience.
One of the wasteful programs funded by USAID Considering that a majority of the beneficiaries of programs funded through USAID are people of color (Ukraine being the one significant exception) it's not all that surprising that a White South African from the Apartheid culture of South Africa would feel the way that he does,
It's called checks and balances. It's written into the Constitution. Three equal branches of the government. You should check out an Elementary School Civics book if you are struggling.
Those days are gone. Who is going to check him? The gop...rotflmao The courts...stooges or he'll just ignore the rulings.
What's really scary is that thanks to Trump and Mitch McConnell we may have a SCOTUS that will buy into the Unitary Executive theory of government or in simple terms of the three coequal branches of government the executive branch is more equal than the other two. Why the Supreme Court may be open to Trump’s push for expanded power Donald Trump’s rapid-fire efforts to expand presidential authority seem likely to prompt key test cases at the Supreme Court he helped shape, according to legal experts, with the conservative supermajority signaling in past rulings that it may be open to landmark changes in the balance of power. In the opening weeks of his second term, Trump has fired inspectors general, frozen federal grants and loans, removed the leadership of independent agencies and dismantled civil service protections. Behind the seemingly scattershot array, analysts see a common goal: a decades-long effort by conservatives to boldly grow the power of the presidency through a principle that says the executive branch has sole authority to hire and fire agency employees and control their policies. The Supreme Court has also embraced the “unitary executive theory,” as the legal idea is known. Legal experts and Trump allies said some of the new administration’s opening moves appear calibrated to tee up cases that rely on the theory, before a friendly Supreme Court that includes three appointees from Trump’s first term. Rulings in favor of the executive branch could cement a vision of the presidency defined by untrammeled authority. Trump said that he was going to be a dictator on day one and his personal SCOTUS may be a willing accomplice to legitimizing the power of the Dear Leader. On the other hand there is also the possibility that in the end the Court may decide that it wouldn't be a good idea to relinquish the authority of the other two branches including its own authority to the Orange One.
