Are you going to post one of these after the markets close? That's a lot of needless work.

You post these all the time and your buddies join in on the Trump bashing but the market always recovers. The Dow is an up and down thing and just because it was down a few hundred points an hour or so ago means nothing.

Sigh. Mexico agreed to nothing and the tariffs were postponed a month. Likely never to be heard from again.. I have no idea.. neither does Trump. Trump announced the same thing the first time around and guess what? Crossing went up until covid.

From the last time he was in office.

What's it say that the market likes Trump's plans being delayed a month? Says those plans are thought to be stupid by the stock market.

Trump probably caved due to the market reaction.

The stock market isn’t always 100% rational, but it also isn’t a random number generator that just goes “up and down” randomly. It was down 500 because of the uncertainty of tariffs. It recovered due to the “good news” of a pause in tariffs.

If market participants actually believed trade was going to be fully disrupted in a trade war you could probably add another 0 to that 500.

WSJ said the market has Tariffs priced in as a negotiation threat and not a reality so becoming a reality is downside. Trump just signaled they are not a reality.

With Mexico. Apparently they're still in place with China and Canada although tariffs on imports from those countries are also subject to change.

My point is how stupid it is to start one of these threads every time the market is up or down a couple hundred points. Whether or not Trump did something to trigger a small change doesn't matter if the market is going to correct itself in a day or so.

Canada will give him something thoroughly useless (likely, something that they were already doing or costs them almost nothing).

The market is thinking that the Chinese one might stick. It is why Tesla, Apple, and Nvidia are still way down.

Was not sure if I would do anything today. But got the feel we were going to finally break through 6010 on the S&P so bought 5 spx calls with a 6020 strike for today at $5.50 at 1:59 and just sold them at 2:21 for $9.10...

While it certainly could have gone the wrong way. I will not be surprised if it closes where I could sell them for two to three times as much later today. Also while I made $1800 there. I am now down $700 on my BA puts. But still think they will pay off...

I know I regularly dont understand your point, but this is yet another one of those times. If pulling my strings is by convincing me he has no idea what he is doing and his followers have no idea what they are looking for, consider them pulled.

You're right, but for all the wrong reasons.

You're correct that he is doing a wonderful job making the left lose their mind. That's the plan.

Throw one (illegal) cockamamie idea after another out there continuously so that his opposition can hardly recover from trying to understand one destructive act before he throws out the next one. That's what he did for his first 4 years and that's what he'll likely do here.

But here's the rub: these ideas aren't winning ideas for anyone other than Trump and his oligarchs. Theyre not good for this country. They're not good for the world. And they sure as heck aren't good for the average US voter.

None of that matters; Contruct a reality where the left is to blame for everything, then do a bunch of crazy stuff to make the left so insane they call your voters nazis, futher driving those voters to your side. It's friggin' brilliant. Clearly a winning strategy. One that I don't see the "Republican" party letting go of anytime soon. No matter the damage done, as long as it's possible, this approach will just keep getting ratcheted up.

I 100% disagree. His attempts have nothing to do with his political opponents. He is lazily throwing the things he said on the campaign trail against the wall to see what sticks. The things that dont stick he'll blame on whatever stops it (judges etc). Anything that sticks, was easy for him since it required no working with congress and just an EO.

There is zero attempt to smokescreen or misdirect. Dude is just an amoeba reacting to stimulus.

    Trump announces Tariffs.

    Dow plummets.

Trump announces Tariffs are on hold.

    Dow goes up.

Thread is about tariffs impact on the stock market, not about the impact of delaying tariffs on the stock market.
