The Trump admin cites fentanyl trafficking from Canada as a justification for tariffs. However, there is little evidence to support that claim in significant amounts.

“the data does not support the claim that Canada is a primary source of the drug entering the U.S.

In Fiscal Year 2024, USCBP seized 21,148 pounds of fentanyl at the southwest border, mostly smuggled from Mexico. In contrast, only 43 pounds were intercepted at the northern border.

Brookings Institution, "There is no indication at all that any significant amount of fentanyl is coming to the United States from Canada." Most fentanyl entering the U.S. comes from Mexico, often using chemical precursors from China. Canada is experiencing its own fentanyl crisis, but it is not a major supplier of the drug to the United States.“

for 13 years alcohol was ILLEGAL in the US. Cops deaths skyrocketed, consumption increased, strength of alcohol greatly increased. alc poisoning deaths increased by 600%.

shrooms, coke, acid, etc have been illegal a long long time & it's everywhere.

Lastly, even if this stops fentanyl from crossing the border (IT WILL NOT), something nastier will take its place.

What was formerly the Republican Party has become detached from reality. They lie and lie and lie and make up whatever facts that they need. Trump is sounding more and more like Baghdad Bob with each bold-face lie he tells the fawning morons.

Meanwhile the Heritage Foundation scum are laughing harder with each passing day.

If it were coming in from Canada, how would tariffs stop it?

    - Canada is supposed to tremble in fear
    - Capitulate
    - Publicly announce that they doing "something" to make border crossings more difficult without actually doing anything.
    - Heritage Foundation Puppet-in-Chief goes on TV blabbering about "victory".

By causing inflation in the US, less of our citizens can afford illegal drugs.

I am guessing the tariffs are supposed to stimulate the Canadians wage an internal war on fentynal production and distribution within Canada to reduce or stop it crossing the border. Same for Mexico. Mostly the tariffs are a giant grift paid by many Americans that can least afford increased basic living expenses. Trump has created a new federal department to stockpile the tariff money collected. Is Congress responsible for this slush fund or is it an executive branch department?

The reality is that the overwhelming majority of illicit fentanyl ending up in the US is manufactured in Mexico by the cartels using precursors from China. It is smuggled into the US combined with legal cargoes entering the US at legal ports of entry. Trump's tariffs especially his tariffs on Canadian goods will have absolutely no impact on the entry of the drug into the US.

He doesn't care. This is all about "owning that lib Trudeau". Seriously. I guarantee you it goes no further than that intellectually for him. It's the same with Europe. He just assumes everyone in Europe/NATO is a liberal clone of Hillary Clinton and needs to be "owned" so his moron fans can have an excuse to wave their pom poms.

They sold out a while back. Sold out to some French and British holdings companies that have been systematically destroying the brand since.

Although Seagram's was originally a Canadian company they have at least one and probably multiple distilleries in the US, one being located near Louisville, Kentucky. The Canadian Bronfman family sold Seagram's to Vivendi a French conglomerate in 2000, Vivendi then sold Seagram's distilling interests to Pernod Ricard and Diageo.

Yeah, I looked it up. They were huge at one point and owned stuff a lot of people didn't realize they owned, including a lot of American brands.

Is only a little fentanyl like a little pregnant?

While fentanyl can go a long way there is a difference between a large quantity of the drug and a small quantity. It's not an absolute binary like pregnancy.
