It had just taken off so would have been full of fuel. Also med-flight probably had some oxygen tanks on board which would also go boom. Combined with natural gas infrastructure and there’s lots of things that can explode. When you see the high rate of speed and type of impact what would one expect?
For context, here is an example of a natural gas hot water heater that exploded on its own. Obliterated the house, damaged neighboring houses, and left a crater. Please note the lack of a leer jet crashing into it at 500mph.
I just saw it reported that they found the black box 8' underground at the site of the crash, not sure I believe that, but that is what was reported, maybe 8' below ground level.

Probably accurate. Considering the impact of the crash an eight foot deep crater would actually be likely. From the video it appears the plane was descending uncontrolled at full speed at the moment of impact.
Agree, I saw a photo earlier that appeared to show the impact crater. I don't think it is 8' below the bottom of the crater, just 8' below street level. And yes, the plane looked like a missile heading into the ground.
The way I construed the news report was that the black box was discovered at the bottom of the crater, not an addition eight feet below ground.
