The problem is these studies are heavily influenced by the basic assumptions. So you can realistically come to whatever conclusion you wanted.
I remember one of our resident “snatches” had a meltdown over that post-COVID surge in lumber prices. I hope it wasn’t the same guy, though both probably have the same magic take on tariffs.
I'm not seeing meltdowns. I'm mostly seeing folks correctly pointing out that it will harm the economy by increasing inflation and reducing trade. And yes, he said he was going to do this. When an idiot says he's going to do something idiotic, you'd best listen and prepare. Stock futures way down today.
Did Congress have any say in levying these tariffs? It seems incredible that one person, even the president, can unilaterally take such actions that drastically affect the economy.
Where was the offset revenue going to come from? Were the targeted tariffs justified by WTO rulings? Do you think all tariffs are the same?
Congress is a biotch and basically has given all these powers to the president over the years. Its supposed to be Congress though.
I was told by several people that I know that this was all a bluff and that he would not really go through with it because he would never hurt the economy. At least that’s what they hoped for.
Nope, turns out a lot of MAGA underestimated Donny when they followed up those kinds of thoughts with "He can't be that stupid, right?"
it is hard to believe that any prez has this power. A poster a few days ago simply posted "A child with a new toy". Perfect.

Yep, and many of his voters bought into it being a good thing. I know a couple. " Nothing to worry about, he knows what he is doing". We will see. So far the stock market seems a bit nervous. To put it mildly.
