    Do tariffs cause inflation?

    Doubt it.

Tariffs would cause the price of affected goods to rise but then people would have less money to spend on other goods which would lower their prices.

Inflation is a function of the money supply, M2. As I understand it.

They won't care or be bothered with facts. Cults believe whatever dear leader says today, even if it's directly conflicts what he said yesterday

If tariffs are so bad, why did Biden keep them?

Tariffs are a tool in a toolbox. They can be good depending on the goal so they are not always bad. Biden keeping those tariffs we're not good imo and I voiced that at the time

America only is not putting America first. Unfortunately too many people have bought into the isolationist idea. They don't realize that the rest of the world invests a lot of money in our country. They don't realize that countries like Canada and the UK have had our back even we make stupid decisions like Iraq and Afghanistan

Tariffs are definitely inflationary and the consumer pays a higher price. Can they cause overall inflation? It depends on the size of the tariffs and the amount of goods impacted.

There is a 100% tariff on Chinese EV's. If that tariff was removed and China flooded us with cheaper cars you don't think overall prices would drop?

What would happen to the price of clothes if there was a tariff placed on all clothing produced outside of the US?

It's ok to not twist yourself in knots to defend Trump's every move and still be a supporter of his

Trump thinks tarriffs are checks that foreign governments write to America to sell products here … he doesn’t even know kt works…

It’s pretty wild seeing “conservatives” flip on this issue over the years, seeing them try to explain tariffs shows their views aren’t based on any academic principle or even basic understanding of how tariffs work.

I actually support targeted tariffs, particularly against China. But going after Mexico and Canada makes little sense. Esp after doing a deal with them 5 years ago. If we want to take on the Chinese, going after our allies is a losing proposition. An unnecessary distraction at best. Hell we’ve been down this road before with Canada and Mexico. Can any Trumper here articulate what was better about NAFTA 2.0 vs NAFTA 1.0? Of course not. Trump talked trash about “ending NAFTA” then produced a deal that was largely copy-paste of NAFTA. If the plan is to do that, it’s another waste of time likely with some alterior motive, but if it’s resolved quickly it won’t do much damage (other than to appear unserious as usual). If the plan is to actually enforce major tariffs over the long term against our nearest trading partners (actually ending NAFTA), sit back with a bucket of popcorn as economies unravel…

I don’t think you’re going to make it 4 years at this rate. Trump criticism has you so triggered you are attacking posters instead of debating. You’ll have a heart attack or be banned before the end of the year.

Feel free to explain. The only thing I ever hear is we need to take care of ourselves before we take care of anyone else. It's an isolationist type of view because it ignores the benefits we receive from other countries

The FED determines what inflation will be. When Trump pressured the FED to lower interest rates during his first term it caused inflation.

If I'm remembering correctly, increases in the money supply (M2) cause a corresponding inflation 14-23 months later per Milton Friedman
If cars are less expensive then there would be more money chasing other goods. Overall inflation would not change imo.
