This should be painful for the economy. But Trump doesn't care. Now I guess we watch inflation increase, but remember : tariffs don't cause inflation, they cause success!! We're going to have big success!! Great success! Trump finalizes tariffs on Canada, Mexico, China, triggering likely trade war President Donald Trump took action Saturday to impose new tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China, which could have a sweeping impact on the American economy. The additional tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods will be 25 percent, although only 10 percent on Canadian energy, a White House official said. The new tariff on Chinese goods will also be 10 percent, as Trump has said for a while. The move sets the stage for a possible North American trade war that economists say could hurt economic growth on the continent and increase inflation. The new duties take effect on Tuesday, but goods shipped before Saturday will not face the higher tax, the White House said. “Tariffs don’t cause inflation. They cause success. Cause big success. So we’re going to have great success. There could be some temporary, short-term disruption, and people will understand that,” he said. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/02/01/trump-tariffs-canada-mexico-00201953
He's trying to tank our 401k's. Looking good so far, Donny! MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Saturday she ordered her economy minister to implement tariff and non-tariff measures to defend her country's interests, after the U.S. slapped across-the-board duties on goods coming from Mexico. Mexican president orders retaliatory tariffs against U.S
I pity the idiots who think tariffs mean the other country is writing a check to uncle sam. We pay when we buy anything from the countries we put the tariffs on. So trade wars are on with Mexico, Canada, and China. Let's add more countries to that list.
Never thought I’d see the day that you and I were in agreement but here we are. I don’t see any positive in this.
Trump inherited a crap economy. There's a saying in the game of chess: "In bad positions there are only bad moves." The US economy ia on an unsustainable path. Putting America on a sustainable path will be very difficult. Elon has an amazing ability to execute. Let's see what he can do. The US healthcare problem could be solved by transitioning to a free market Singapore-like system and ending licensure requirements. The "transitioning" part would be super hard. Licensing is something most everyone favors. Why would you want an unlicensed electrician working on your house? Why would you want eye doctors around who aren't licensed? Because the licensure process allows people with government approved licenses to charge more for their services than they could make in a freer market. Result: In the states where it is harder to become an electrician there are more accidental electrocutions.. In states where it is harder to be an eye doctor there are more cases of preventable blindness. And so on down a long list of "professions." Do you understand why this might be? Ending licensure would not end your ability to get high quality professional help. You could still go to "board certified" physicians or hire an electrician that some group had determined was high quality if you wanted. But people without a lot of money could hire a cheaper electrician instead of trying to do the job themselves. Poor people would have the option to get their eyes examined more inexpensively instead of not going to an optometrist at all. Anyway, healthcare costs are destroying America. Any solution to the problem would be opposed by virtually all Democrats and RINO's. MAGA types would be more likely to recognize what I said in this post makes sense because they aren't insane.
None of that has anything to do with Trump's stupid move. Try and stay on topic. You can still be a fan of Trump and not support every decision he makes
I wonder if Americans will hate Trump inflation as much as Biden inflation? I hope Americans enjoy MAGA.
I think it's a great chess match, which Canada nor Mexico can win. I'm very happy with President Trump going after all these countries putting America first. Like he said these countries are make a killing off us. Just give it time, he'll win like he usually does and yes, we may have some temporally pain but can't any worse than the last 4 years
Think about it, this is actually the best time to do this, Americans already living with the pain from Biden, what's several more months of this. Mexico and Canada will cave, I think Canada caves first. Mexico's leftist President is actually putting up a pretty good fight but it's a battle she can't win
Why Does Donald Trump Want Tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China in 2025? - Newsweek "Number one is the people who have poured into our country so horribly and so much. Number two are the drugs — fentanyl and everything else that have come into the country. And number three are the massive subsidies we are giving to Canada and Mexico in the form of deficits. And I will be putting the tariff of 25 percent on Canada, and, separately, 25 percent on Mexico. And we will really have to do that because we have very big deficits with those countries. Those tariffs may or may not rise with time."
The Chinese tariffs that Trump implemented and Biden kept have yet to benefit the US. All of the money we made went to subsidize the farmers that lost business and that business is still down because China found other countries to buy from My prediction is we will push Canada and Latin America to sign deals with China
I've actually only listened to him like 3 times, the Trump interview was the first one and it was great
