Fortunately my company sources domestic but I’m worried about the effects of others in our industry. This could drastically slow the entire market.

It could be a double edge sword. If the foreign imported product goes up 100% the domestic product might go up as well to capture margin. But, I suspect this will be short lived tariffs. All he wants is a “deal” and a splashy headline. 50% won’t believe the fact check “true impact” of the deal and impact to the broader economy.

“The Dumbest Trade War in History”

“drugs have flowed into the U.S. for decades, and will continue to do so as long as Americans keep using them. Neither country can stop it. Drugs may be an excuse since Mr. Trump has made clear he likes tariffs for their own sake.

the data show that “as imports go up, U.S. production goes up.” Thousands of good-paying auto jobs in Texas, Ohio, Illinois and Michigan owe their competitiveness to this ecosystem, relying heavily on suppliers in Mexico and Canada.

Maybe Mr. Trump will claim victory and pull back if he wins some token concessions. But if a North American trade war persists, it will qualify as one of the dumbest in history.“

Just to put a number on how wrong this is:

80% of people arrested trafficking fentanyl over the border are US citizens.

Again, the same warnings of impending doom regarding tariffs rained down during his first term and the economy grew quickly. All while the Fed was actively raising interest rates and with very little inflation to speak of. It's a good bet whenever you see the media predicting apocalyptic doom from something Trump does that said action will end up as a boon to America. And again, these apocalyptic doom predictions and warnings are no surprise to us, as the media are part of the progressive left who actively seek to destroy America from within.

Gotta love the token 10% for his friends in China. Meanwhile, Elon, TicTok owners, Tim Cook and anyone else who wrote a check gets to skate completely on any China tariffs.

But 25% on our allies. SMH. MAGA Moron to the core.

Because he didn't implement or enforce any meaningful tariffs. Even on China, he just got us pointed in the right direction. It was the Biden administration that actually locked it down and applied real enforcement measures, one's he's currently undoing.

Oh, my bad, big words and nuance. I forgot who I was talking to.

What deal? NAFTA2 - which he negotiated - is a great deal already.

I’ve wondered why the cartels haven’t gone back to using compressed air to launch drugs over the double fence line. Fentanyl is so concentrated that those t-shirt launch guns would work vs this truck mounted one they used to launch almost 30 pound capsules.

'Marijuana cannon' used to fire drugs over US border seized in Mexico

Being the proverbial surrender monkey that he is, I’m sure Trump would just prefer Ukraine surrender.

China, our supposed enemy and economic rival: 10% tariff.

Our neighbors and partners: 25% tariff.

That’s some 3D chess right there.

Trump is either a slow learner or his dementia has rapidly progressed. He waged a trade war with Canada during his first term, hurt some red states, and still lost, so why he thinks things will be different this time is a head scratcher.

The likely result is that Mexico, amongst other Latin American companies, will turn to China for deeper economic reliance. Canada will shuffle things as well.

I’m curious as to how Canada will respond because it has several options, especially in the area of energy since over half the states rely on Canadian energy to function.

China Silk Road in the US backyard. Trump’s Panama Canal designs make more sense in this context to thump China trade routes.

So a pretty good illustration of the stupidity of this. Here is the track of a pretty common component for a car and the path it takes to get into a new car.

So you can easily see that single component getting hit with tariffs up to 4 times. But I am sure that will help the car manufacturer sell more cars profitably when their component manufacturers get hit by tariffs four times and try to pass the costs along to them (they will then try to pass it onto the customer).

The locally roasted coffee beans I buy (beans imported from Mexico) went up in price today as well.

They'll double dip on that too. Raise prices today to pay for "the next batch with tariffs". Then, when the tarriff gets lifted, keep the high price to pay for the expensive inventory.

I was just kidding about the Tequila, which I don’t drink - mainly gin or bourbon.
But, coffee is serious business. I hate that cost is going up.
