And the chickens have come home to roost now....it was a decision that is costing FSU about $25M a year right now. A very happy ending indeed!

That's why you don't let your football coach exclusively make business decisions like this. Bobby Dodd did the same thing in the mid-60's when he withdrew GaTech from the SEC in part due to greed wanting to play certain other SEC schools exclusively in Atlanta. What a huge lack of foresight and failure on their part.

    Agree about Bobby B certainly.
But about Bobby Dodd- I think the Chick Graning/ Darwin Holt incident had something to do with it.
I think Dodd rightly saw that the Bama schools ran the SEC.
However, getting out of the SEC was a poor decision indeed.
And South Carolina getting out of the ACC was idiocy on top of spite- just dumb x 1000. (More due to b-ball.)

To put a more overall spin on things- coaches are short term thinkers.
So they should in no way be involved in such major decisions.
But they are also the king of the palace, so they hold a lot of sway.

Definitely it factored, but I think the biggest factor was not wanting to travel to play Ole Miss and Miss St and only wanting to play them at home...IOW, greed. We see how the SEC is run out of B'ham too, but so far have decided not to cut our nose off to spite our face. I think Dodd had some idea that Ga Tech would be the Southern Notre Dame....I think they had the one of the biggest stadiums in the South at that time
True, I think Dodd was also AD which wasn't too uncommon until more recently.
